Hi, sorry if this is somewhere else, but cant seem to find info...

NTL arrived on Saturday, installed broadband, but never secured the network. I have a netgear wireless router, and have all the original boxes of the modem and the router. How do I secure the network, when I go to log onto the routers IP address I am asked for a username and password which don't know as none was set up.

Would appreciate some help so I dont have to ring NTL (if there BB service is anything like the TV service than I would probably get nowhere anyway)

    Thanks

This should all be on the sheet that came with the netgear router
from memory, the username is "admin" and the password is either "admin" or "password"

ok, think I made a mess of this...

got logged onto the wireless router, clicked wireless settings and clicked enable WEP security. I typed in a passphrase and this generated a key whcih was like 4 5 digits keys. I didnt take note of the key as I thought that when I looged back on my phasephrase would be my password for the wireless router.

Anyway, can't log on to wireless router now, it says the security settings on my computer do not match with that of the router. Any help appreciated, Thanks.

Reset the router - press in the little hole at the back. Now set up your security again - this time enable wpa security instead of wep - easier and more secure. when you set up wpa it asks you for a password - set this - save your settings now when you attempt to join the wireless network it will ask you for the password you have just set up.

And the password for the wireless router and the password you set up for the wireless network under wpa are not the same thing!!!
