Hey all, I searched for a few threads in this but most seem to be pretty old.

I was wondering if anybody could give me any information on this martial art?

It has been recommended to me by a poster on another forum who swears by it.

I am living in Navan, and have little to no experience in Martial Arts, although I have started Jiu Jitsi and am enjoying it. Just it is only one class a week and would like to practice a bit more.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks mate.

I have already tried there, but they're not taking on beginners at the moment.

Anyone else know of any other clubs? Or has anyone actually practised this martial art?

    Hi Satan,:)

I was talking to you. I will probably run a beginners course in Jan/Feb 2008 but in the meantime try the City Centre school as beginners can jump in anytime.

    Regards,

    Michael.

I trained in the Wing Tsun club in the Dublin city centre for years and I'd highly recommend it. I've trained in lots of martial arts clubs over the years and this was definitely one of the best. Very pleasant, informal atmosphere and a good mixture of classic forms, padwork, sparring and self-defence training. You have to give it a go yourself and see if you like it.

Thanks Michael and ComDubh. I would really like to give it a try, but will probably have to wait until Jan/Feb 2008 for the beginners course.

Traveling into the City Centre doesn't really suit, although I may tip into the odd class to see how it's run.

    Thanks again lads.

    Michael IEWTO,

i trained in Ching Wu in Dublin for years which has alot of similar core elements to Wing Chun. I would like to scrub up and polish my trapping drills and perhaps do some chi sau and chi gerk work, will this be possible if i attended some of your classes.

    Thanks,
    Tom

    Hi Tom,

Nice to hear from you. I am not taking new students at the moment as I found that I had to spend a disproportionate amount of time with them and could not give the more advanced people proper attention. However feel free to go into the City Centre school anytime and I will probably run a beginners course in Jan/Feb 08.

However I don't know if it would suit you as you would not go onto chi-sau(sticky hands) or chi-gerk (sticky legs) for quite a long time. Wing Tsun is built so that you have plan A, plan B, etc. Chi-Sau only kicks in with plan B and we superimpose it on more generic skills like punching, kicking, closing the disance, etc.

As an aside, years ago when I was with a different organisation I "knew" 15 sections of chi-sau and could not apply any of them. I trained with a guy from my current organisation who knew and could apply 1 section and he totally dominated me. It made me reevaluate my training.

    Hope this helps,

    Michael

    Michael,

Thanks for your reply. I dont think a beginners class would suit me to be honest, i am only looking to work on my chi sau, chi gerk and certain trapping drill (Dohn Chi) which have become a little rusty with time. i have spent to much time sparring in th epast few yaesr and not enough time working on these other aspects. Do you not take on non-beginners to fit into the intermediate or senior levels of your class so i could work with people of the same abilities?

    Thanks again,
    Tom

    Hi all,

I'm in Las Vegas at the moment and won't be back for about a week. Taking in the Grand Canyon and New York also. It is some country but a little shabby. I know we talk about dirty old dublin but compared to what I have seen in New York and Las Vegas it is actually a really nice city.

And guess what? Its raining.
