Great job John and the rest of the team. Check out the standard of the guys who placed. Awesome company to keep and I'm sure the rest of the Irish lads didn't look out of place either.

    Onwards and upwards Irish grappling!

Well done all the Irish who competed. Some result there, John -- Well done congratulations!!!!:)

Jim won, not by tasty guillotine but by supremely cool rear naked choke.

You know that feeling you get when you see Randy Couture win a match that everyone said he couldn't? Now imagine if Randy was even nicer and had bought you chocolate earlier that day... Watching Jim win was the coolest thing about the weekend.

Some of the matches should make it to Youtube at some stage.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved who made this happen.

Thanks to everyone who attended the trials.
Thanks to Andy and SBG Northside for hosting the trials, meetings and training.
Thanks to fightlord.com for their generous sponsorship.
Thanks to Mick McCauly and the IAWA for sorting licences and such with FILA.
Thanks to everyone on the team for making the trip great fun, even while waiting "ten minutes" for a lift.

Last but certainly not least, thanks to John for all his organisation, training and encouragement.

In terms of results, myself and Jim made it to the quarter finals before going out, and everyone on the team gave a great account of themselves. In every case, whoever beat one of us went on to medal.

John flew the flag for Ireland and brought home a silver medal in a very tough division, unluckily getting caught by the youngest ever BJJ black belt in the USA.

Pictures and such will follow whenever I find my USB cable.

Nah RNC as shane said, eric tried to throw me using a takedown shanes perfecting at the moment but thankfully kav showed me a nice counter to take the back off it about 2 weeks ago.

I want to echo what Clive said and thank those who made it happen,

Thanks to everyone who attended the trials, especially Mark Hamill for beating me, making me train that much harder since then.
Thanks to Andy and SBG Northside for hosting the trials, the team meetings and training.
Thanks to fightlord.com for their generous sponsorship.
Thanks to Mick McCauly who despite my not coming first or second in the trials was willing to back me in representing IAWA and for the sorting licences and such with FILA.
Thanks to my team mates for everything, support, friendship, help in preparing etc. and for not getting me kicked off any of the planes.

And also finally thanks to kav who showed how great a coach he is in supporting me in preparing for the comp and for helping me nearly every day since i started back in febuary a full 22-23kg heavier than the 61kg i weighed in at on saturday. Thanks for everything coach.

I too hope to get the videos and photos up soon, congrats to my team mates again as everybody should be proud of there performance because as clive said everyone who beat us went on to medal.

Jim if you're down to 61kg, that's a great achievement. Last time I saw you, you were over 70KG! Congrats

Clive in that long list of people that you thanked you omitted to mention Axel from France who took charge of the situation and got us that lift from the Airport after we waited "10 Minutes".
To give people some idea of the standard of the American team my opponent Matt Sanchez who won silver told me that he had been wrestling since he was 6 years of age. I later learned from another member of the American team that Matt was a 3 time all American wrestling chapion. He also had several years of submission wrestling under his belt. The American team also had the benefit of a 2 week intensive training camp before they went to Turkey. So it was an considerable achievment for Clive and Jamie to do so well and as for JK he is a class act and who knows, if he had not been caught with that leg lock so early on we might have heard a national anthem other than the American one played at the awards ceremony.

It really was a great weekend.

The standard was very high, if you look up any of the medallist you get an idea of that.

There's so many people to thank for putting this together, mainly JK. Competed and coached, helped me warm up, put up with me after I passed that aceptable level of drunk.

Ebe - "No, this is going to happen."
    Mick McAuley
Fightlord - we actually did use the tracksuits, mainly for prancing around the airport. It made us look like a proper team, the English only had t-shirts.

    Thanks to everyone.
