Does anyone have any details of the insurance policy which is automatically deducted from the €350 deposit? Specifically, does it cover a laptop computer away from the insured address?

As far as I know no, I think it only covers it if it's stolen from inside the apartment.

Call into your res office (try office hours as they admins will know exactly) and ask them for a copy of the policy if they have it, it does come through the doors later in the year anyway.

AFAIK, it doesn't cover the laptop away from the halls of residence. Does anyone know of a stand-alone policy which will cover a laptop against theft or accidental damage away from the base?

A household contents policy which includes 'all risks' specifically excludes laptops.
