At Hrta for the first last sat had a great day and will definitely return anyway came home and cleaned my aeg sprayed some silicone oil into barrel and onto some j cloth and used the cleaning rod, noticed a small bit of resistance at mag end of barrel but could see the rod through the mag well, the piece of cloth came out fairly black and repeated the process a couple of times.Have not gone near it since. Now here is the question did I damage the hop up because i forgot to turn it off ? If I did what can I expect to happen if i fire it and will it be easy to fix ? sorry for long post but I am here in work worry that I have totally messed up the aeg (Dboys M4).

    Thanks

Could have damaged hop up, but only dismantling & checking will tell.

For what it's worth, I also have the DBoys M4 and, even with the hop up fully off, for some reason there is always more resistance in bottom third of barrel when cleaning it.

[tip: keep rotating the cleaning rod (e.g like a screwdriver) as you push in & out of barrel]

You'll have to test fire it. If the bb's are going in directions they shouldn't, then it may be the hop-up was indeed damaged.

Got around to test firing the aeg bbs are going straight but am not getting the range that I was before. Adjusting the hop up makes no difference what so ever. I guess I have damaged the hop up what do I need to get to repair it and is it abig job. Thanks for all your help.

they're not too hard to replace depending on the gun, on the m4, you'll have to take the upper receiver off to remove the hopup unit and get at the end of the barrel, you can then replace the hopup rubber, they are cheap enough to get aswell, $6 shipped on ehobbyasia

I can give a better description of how to open the receiver etc.. if you need

Got above delivered today the brass ring is oval and there is no hard plastic on the inside just a piece of soft rubber and very small rubber piece did i get a dud? Anyway the m4 is firing much better after putting about 500 bbs through it.

the hard plastic inside is only to keep the soft rubber from getting deformed during shipping

the brass ring is only necessary for some aegs, never used it on any aegs myself

the soft rubber and the very small rubber piece are the hopup rubber and hopup nub respectively

no prob, you got it installed ok then i assume?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 405 ✭✭cpb

No did not install it as aeg is firing fine accuracy and range is as it was before cleaning but that is after putting 500 bbs through it so I am guessing that I used too much silicone oil in the barrel when cleaning it out, is that a possibility. Will keep rubber till I definitely need it no harm having spare. Thanks again

yup, silicone oil will do that alright, dunno why i didnt think to mention it before, after cleaning it's always a good idea to run a couple hundred rounds through to clear out the excess silicone oil if there is any.
