Just wanna run this by all you good people, I have a Mac Book Pro, 1.83 Ghz, is it expandable up to 4Gigs? Two ports so two of 2gigs if you get me.... just checking before I fork out.

    Thanks in advance

Try crucial.com and put in your specs - it will tell you everything you need to know.

Cheers, thanks for that, very cool tool.

Got my answer it only expands to two GB each slot can only hold one.

    Thanks again

    Blame the chipset.

Also blame your greed :p I don't think pairing 4Gb RAM with a 1.83Ghz CD would see that much improvement over 2Gb.

Of course, I'm still stuck in "1Gb is enough for any system godsdammit!"-land ;)

Think the older models will only do 2 or 3gb max. The newer ones are 4gb max. I haven't noticed a massive difference yet but I stuck the ram in straight away pretty much. When I start back to college I will see the difference but you should notice a difference yes. 2gb is still plenty though.

Are you a core duo or a core 2 duo. If the latter then 3GB ram

    see here

Wiki page Definitely a CoreDuo at that spec.

How about the easy solution then -- just buy 1x2Gb stick, bung it in for 2.5Gb RAM*
And keep the unused RAM stick to chuck back in for when you sell the MBP ;)

*note: the MBP will only recognise 2Gb RAM!

From what I know the 1.83GHz - which I own - can take 3GB of RAM. In this mode the RAM isn't as efficient but some apps welcome the increase anyway, notably CS3 and several audio apps like Reason etc. It's a limitation of the Core Duo chipset.

By the way Gooner, Arsenal ?? Pity ! ;)
