Note: I know my preflop was terrible. Doesnt happen very often thank be to jaysus.

Ok, Jackpot €1-2, Live, Very deep, average of 300BB's. I am UTG. The deck may as well be stuck to the villains (SB) big ugly head:p , not a particularly good player but solid in that he doesnt get out of line or make plays.

I straddle for 5.(first mistake!!!) Anyway EP makes it €10. Half the table calls and I call getting 9 to 1 on my money. I have J2.

    My stack:650
    Villain: Just covers

    Flop 4d2cJhr
    Pot: 60
I didnt particularly like the flop but felt I was ahead and am willing to lay it down given serious aggression. Villain is SB, he checks, I bet 45, everyone else folds. He calls.

    Turn Qh
    Pot: 150
An absolutely horrible card for me.Nevertheless, Villain Checks and I think for a bit. I bet 120. He calls saying "absolutely"

    River 3c
    Pot 390

    Villain Checks.... Now I?

    "absolutely"

    River 3c

Pump it to the maximillion..so many regular villians do this in the jackpot..the non heart river is good for you

    edit thought stacks were shallower

prob bet/fold even though you'd be getting sick odds

As played check river. I'd be very uneasy as to what villian is calling on such a dry board with.

    Definately fold pf.

    Flop is ok
Check turn, if villian is solid as you say, I can't see him calling without at least JT+, 22, 44. on such a dry board and you may induce a bet from a bare J on the river.

Call a smallish bet on the river. Vb river if he checks/drop to a raise. That being said, I think you've been taken to value town. Maybe this is a bit nitty.

I might find a small bet here, say 200 and fold to a raise, if he will play any 2 or any 2 suited. If I was as confused as you seem to be I would just check, and expect to win 80% of the time or so.

Easiest bet ever. About 230 should do it.

check it down..u have some showdown value.

We have an opponent in check call mode, value bet the fcuk out of that.

Fold the river, he got there with 56 hearts :)

I think you have to VB tbh however passive calling stations will often check monsters to you on the river.

stradding isnt really a mistake per se, and calling the min raise would be mandatory with 100bb stacks, never mind 300.

I think you should bet the river for 200. I dont think you can fold to a raise as theres a small chance he has a worse two pair.

On the river you should check if the player is unlikely to call with a lone jack.

I'd just check the river. Very unlikely a worse hand will call.

i dont think there was any mistake in this hand at all but as roundtowe said you seem to be confused.
i would value bet the river and dont think i would fold to a push either.
i would have to have seen villain check/calling multiple streets (specially the river) with a better hand than mine for me to check the river.

I would def fold to a shove, there is almost no way he shows up with a worse two pair and plays it this way. When he cr's the river, he's either bluffing or overplaying a weaker hand(unlikely) or has a monster(much more likely). Bet/folding is certainly the best line on this river, even if we have to fold getting good odds.

    I'm value betting for 200

200 seems to be the general consensus....why not bet 280/300?

if he has KJ or AJ he will call, this is the jackpot after all!

This depends a lot on the villain, if you think he is capable of slow playing something big to this extent, then i check back. If you have a suspicion that you might be behind, you check back.
Based on the betting and what you have said, i would probably put him on something like ak suited missing his flush draw, or a pair lower than the queens. I would fancy i am ahead but thats without any reads, and as such i would value bet, as i dont think you will extract a big call from someone like this unless they are holding top pair with a big kicker. And to me a value bet is somewhere in the 180 range.

    Results:

I elected to bet/fold as weak as it may sound. I did bet 200 and he called with Q4. Unlucky but I was very confused. I think maybe I should have checked behind( probably results orientated) given how confused was although I wanted to get max value out of a lone J or Q.

I think a value bet here is going to be paid off by a 1-pair hand a lot of the time. Especially when he says "Absolutely" I would usually take that as a sign of weakness not strength, as in "Absolutely, I will call you down with my 1 pair because I think you are bluffing"

As far as the actual result, he played it like a donkey and you were unlucky. I don't see much wrong with your play here.

im not sure that i like the turn bet
as played i bet 200 on the river

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,404 ✭✭✭Goodluck2me

when you say the queen was the worst card to turn, the 4 or Ace or King would be much worse!

I check behind on the river as i find worse hands will rarely call.

In live games in Dublin, jack or especially Queen/decent kicker calls here all the time. You're definitely loseing value by not betting this, it was just unlucky the way it turned out.
