    Hi,

I have a Dunnes interview coming up soon, general assistant, been out of work for a while, so am rubbish at interviews. Education is good but work history is limited.

If anyone has any tips on interview (Dunnes related stuff would be a bonus) I would welcome them, in particular questions to ask at the end as I want the job and don't want to mess up the interview.

    Cheers! ;)

If you're not an idiot you'll get a job. Let's be honest, it doesn't take a huge amount to stack a shelf .. although being friendly would be a bonus :)

They just ask where you worked before, how quick can you start and your refrences. That's all they asked me anyway!

IMO, it's to make sure you're not a knacker, scumbag, and/or banned from any of their stores for shoplifting.

Strangely, they only use Polish for night packing though.

My advice: find a job elsewhere. Dunne's was the worst job I have ever had by a long shot. The only benefit I got from working there was a profound appreciation for every other job I have had since. You have to take sh1t from uneducated, d1ckhead "managers" on mad power trips ordering young lads around.

When I send in my CV to them I always get a PFO. Might aswell give up now eh.

i worked for dunnes stores for 5 years, one of the worst jobs anyone could have the misfortune to have, they take you on ,no problem, they tell you that you will go far in the company, make all the right noises, then treat you like dirt, expect you to live on working 19 hours a week,at 8-65 an hour,if a manager, and i use that term loosley, gets his butt kicked, look out,he will throw his weight around at the floor staff.
my advice to you is dont work for dunnnes, dont even shop there, Tesco a better place to work,if you go to work for dunnes, join a union, you will need it,dunnes cant get irish people to work for them any more, they just treat people like s..t.

I have to say this thread is an eye opener,I have never worked in retail but I have always been of the opinion that Dunne's were a good emplyer...Thinking about it now I am not even sure how this opinion was formed. Its obviously not true.

BTW, when I say "enjoy your 9 months", I mean that anyone I know that ever worked there only worked for 9 months, and then got sacked.

agent^smith, dunno how you worked there for 4 years. The 9 month thing has been there for at least a few years, and one of the unions noted this a while back. Dunno why Dunnes does this, but I think after 9 months, you get a pay rise.

    rubbish imo..

worked there for almost 4 years, i know others who've been there longer..

after 12 months, pay goes up.. if you get sacked you're not working. simple as that. They need to issue you with 3 formal warnings before they can sack you, if you're there longer than 3 months (as far as i know)..

after that probabtion period, unless you do something stupid like tell one of the managers to go 'f*** themselves' :D when they ask you to do something (yes that did happen) you won't get the sack ;)

in my local dunnes, there weren't afraid to sack people.. i'd say 50% of new employees left after a year or less, some due to being dossers, others cause they didn't like it.. so there is a very high turnover of staff..

but that's to be expected in retail with all the kids/college people etc.. taking years out, then going back to college, needing time off for exams etc..

Dunnes will hire anybody. They just want people who speak english and who will work whatever crappy hours they give you.

Agreed. Work in dunnes if you want to learn how to enjoy working in mcdonalds.
