MCE Extenders v2 get XviD support

Here is an interesting twist and something that I'm sure will make MCE extenders appeal to a whole lot more people in the details announced for the new (& long overdue) v2 extenders XviD/DivX support was mentioned with official support.

Reported on engadget and Green Button blog (which has more details).

Multiple form factors they can be integrated into TV's, DVD players, standalone units etc
    802.11n wireless support

Release date is sometime this Christmas and Linksys and D-Link are on-board, as the UI is out of their hands they should not be able to screw anything up like they usually do :)

Fingers crossed these new extenders also get H.264 support or the Xbox 360 gets XviD support but not sure about XviD on Xbox as they must absorb cost of licensing and they may not like that idea seeing as they are trying to turn a profit on those.

Still great news if this pans out & at long last something official with instant on/good UI and decent codec support.

Something further interesting Engadget has pictures of the Nvieus (never heard of them I presume USA only) extender but it looks impressive almost like a PC but take a look at the inputs on the back and there are TV inputs for s-video, HDTV antenna, IR Blaster, this must mean that these extenders route the TV signal back to the PC which would be pretty cool if so!

Edit: False alarm Engadget are mis-reporting the hardware at the Nvieus booth, disappointing as the hardware on show is actually a PC.

not a hope if its going to decode HD content unless they use an optimised, custom hardware platform (Read non-x86 or x64).

    mce pc 140-200 watts
    xbox 360 extender 240 watts
