i don't think this is possible just want to put it out there to the more knowledgable among you to confirm.

with a sky+ box you obivously have 2 cables, is it possible to split the output of one of those cables with something like a sky eye receiver to send to another room, i.e. i have sky sports downstairs and now and again the missus is watching something else, is it possible to record the sports game and watch the feed coming from that other cable else where in the house?

I'm no expert but I believe the reason for the 2 feeds is so that you can simultaneously watch\record channels with different polarisations (horizontal and vertical) - so splitting one of the feeds would definitely cause problems. also the Sky+ box can only output one signal at a time.

You would need a quad LNB (with four outputs) and a seperate decoder in the other room.

Unless one of you were to settle for watch his/her programme later, you need the setup loyatemu has described. Sky calls it multiroom. It costs €15 extra per month and must be connected to the same phone line as your Sky+ box.
