Suggestion for Photo Challenges

I had meant to suggest this a few weeks back, but here goes.

I was playing with the idea of splitting the challenges into two different types.

The first, which is nearest to what we have at the moment, would be a 'Gallery' with a set title, for example, conflict, red, portrait... similar titles. With this, we can dig up any shots previously taken that best represents the title. General voting at the end of the month leads to the next title.

The other type, is a brief driven challenge, much like seen on Strobist, which means that (longer timeframe) every other month there's a brief put into the Challenge Forum, which could be something like "take a photograph of a certain person who owns a certain building" to "have a triptych of photos to sell this type of shoe", the person, building and shoe, would be surrounded in *'s and can be changed to suit each member. Obviously they'll all be fictional briefs, and it's a chance to have some fun, and actually following a brief.

I'm not sure how others will read that, but if you have any questions, fire away, and we'll see what happens.

    :)

fictional briefs are my favorite type of garment...

Anyway, congratulations! You just volunteered to run the photo challenge. I'm off for some R&R

    :D

But seriously, it sounds like an interesting challenge. Looking forward to it.
Must have a look at strobist to get a better idea.

I'm in. It takes me longer time with film, but it is only a tenner for a roll to develop and scann it, so it's less painful now.

So mothly thema for picture and monthly task for miniproject.

That "brief" idea - sounds interesting. It would be a new way of shooting for me, never having followed a brief before, so definitely a challenge. Might not be so hard for others on the forum, possibly those doing "meedja" courses :p

What do you mean about changing parts of the brief for each member? Tailor-made briefs for all? (sorry)

    B.

Thonda, it'd be bi monthly, so you'd have loads of time.

Similar to Tailor made briefs, say for example, I put forward a brief of

"*insert name here* has opened up his/her new *enter name of shop/brand/range of toiletries here* and there will be an article about his career in this weekends Sunday Times' business section. Please take one COLOUR photograph of him/her in location, in a way that shows off his/her career & *enter name of shop/brand/range of toiletries here*"

Which at first seems like quite a photojournalistic brief, but it does give room to play around quite a lot. Each entrant can make up their own *whatever's in the brackets* to suit them, and who/where/what they have availible. Other briefs could include architectural work, product shoots, general portaits, landscapes for travel etc etc.

Working to a brief sounds good. Perhaps someting like:

A new telecommunications company called - COBALT - is due to launch their new mobile phone service. The picture must have a mobile phone and a person, ensure their is some blue (ie cobalt) in the picture and title the picture with a tag line for the new product in 7 words or less, eg - Probably the best service in the world...

If we did that brief thing, it might be fun to set something up so a few of us could come along and shoot together. It's the finding the subject bit that's the biggest pain in the ar$e I think.

or choose a subject that everyone can get their hands on and/or stepoutside their front door and see.

I think this sounds like a great idea. The sooner it gets up and running, the better!

Sounds like a good idea to me.. I think that might be fun.

Also I was trawling the Internet today and came across an old fad... I loved the idea of 'flash-mobbing' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flash_mob)

We should try and arrange these type of challenges. Everybody assemble in one place and just take pics of peoples reactions and the event.... We could get arrested, but it might be interesting! :o
