Very big loss to the music world.

My brother used to cry as a child when Nessa Dorma was played during Italia '90. He would have been ~3 at the time.

Anyone have the pleasure of seeing a live performance?

    A real pity.

Magnificent voice. Nessun Dorma still makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. Brings me back to Italia 90.

Well, I'm no Opera fan, but his rendition of Nessum Dorma at Italia 90 will forever, for me, be a memory to a brilliant time.

    RIP.

I saw him in the Point Depot years and years and years ago.

I'm not a big opera fan but just listening to him sing Nessun Dorma was amazing.

You shouldn't be flippant. This is news of grave weight.

It is a sad day indeed but there is nothing wrong with being flippant it's how some people deal with these things. Which brings me to ask........

Will there be a Fat Lady singing at the funeral ?

It does weigh heavy on my mind today alright :(.

One of my favourite moments from the 1990 World Cup Concert:

The thing about Pavarotti is that he turned a lot of people to Opera who never listened to it before.

is that a pun veiled as a response? I'm not being flippant, never listened to the guy, only knew him from the ads.

Plus there are a shed load of jokes and puns already going around the internet that i've chosen not to post.

Death means different things to different people. To some its a time to be sombre and look into the past. For others its a time for happiness and looking to the future in that it reminds you to not to take things so seriously and enjoy what life you have left. I know i'd love everyone at my funeral laughing it up.

I wasn't having a go at you, it was just an excuse for a pun. ;) As it turns out, I pretty much share your sentiments on the matter.
