Can Anyone Tell Me What It Should Cost And Is It Recommended To Get The Water Pump Changed Aswell.

The price for changing the timing belt is not too bad but would recommend you go to a non dealership garage and they will be cheaper. On the puma you DO NOT replace the water pump as it is driven by the fan belt, not the timing belt!

Hi, Can anyone help. Bought a 2002 Ford Puma last Oct. Got a guy to look at. He said was great car, but at 90,000 miles needed a new timing belt. Didn't know myself but went ahead on his advice. Charged €400 and ever since the car has been giving trouble. Revs go up to 5000 pm changing up and down gear. Black smoke pouring out. Using gallons of fuel. Guy says is nothing to do with timing belt.Is 'idle control'. He's removed, and squirted cleaning stuff into the 'idle control'. no help. got a secondhand idle thing and put in today. still no use.
    Going mad. Can anyone advise?:)

    Old thread...

Sounds to me like he didn't have the correct timing tools for your engine and the timing is off.

    €400 is overpriced too IMO.
