USB to Serial adaptor

    Hi all,
    A quick question regarding these. Will all devices that have a serial port work when connected throught a USB to Serial adaptor?

    Its a car management software that I am using at the moment and the cable that connects the car to the laptop is a serial connection however there is no serial adaptor on the laptop. Will these devices work with an adaptor or is it software specific?

    We use these to connect to a lot of old equipment and have never run into anything that wont work over serial to usb...

    They can sometimes be temperamental but I find the model that B&B Electronics sell is pretty good
