Commuting from naas...

I have two job offers on the table. One is on Airton road, Tallaght and the other is on the kylemore road (off the naas road). Both start at 8.30. What sort of times do people reckon the commute would be from Naas/Newbridge?

    Cheers.

Hmmm, it depends on what time you leave at. But Tallaght sounds better as you wouldnt have the dreaded Red Cow roundabout which can add up to an hour to your journey in either direction! And you can cut through Citywest / Saggart to get to Tallaght too.

If I'm not mistaken, there's a train station nearby Naas? I ask as traffic going into Dublin is very slow. I know, I went the opposite direction to Carlow every Monday, and it was chock-o-block a fair bit back. Likewise when I was going back into Dublin in the evening, the traffic was chock-o-block going to Naas.

But wait! If you get the train from Naas to Heston, and then the Luas from Heuston, it'll take you by the West of Kylemore Road junction on Naas Road, and onto Tallaght. Not sure how long the train and luas will take you but try going in the car to the Naas road to find out.

How far is the Tallaght job from the N7? I'd guess that it would be a slightly shorter time to get there but it could be the same or more. I don't know what traffic in Tallaght is like. The only sure way to check it out is to travel to both and see how long it takes. I'd leave at 7.30 at the latest to start with. You can adjust that down (or up) if you need to.

The train, Luas combo will take longer and both will be chock-a-block with people standing morning and evening.

The thing is I need my car for the job so public transport isnt an option.

The first job isnt to far, its just off airton road. To get to the N7 is about a mile. That way you avoid the M50 and Red cow round about.

The second job is of the kylemore road (off the Naas road) which is the city side of the M50. THe red cow round would be the shorter journey by distance to it but maybe not he quickest??

Absolutely not the quickest with the current chaos caused by the road works. Took me 2 hours to get from Newland's Cross to the airport last Thursday evening.

Newlands cross is an absolute nightmare, was also working around Airton Road but ended up leaving the job to be quite honest due to the stress of traffic.

You can take the citywest route instead although white the traffic does move, it doesnt move very quickly.

There's alot of road works around the Airton Road itself, how long they'll be going on for I dont know but if your planning any trial runs beware the temporary traffic lights.

The slowest part of travelling on the N7 is from Citwest to Newlands Cross.

I would imagine the time from Newlands to Airton is only marginally faster than from Newlands to the Kylemore Road.

Also, when the flyovers are completeed on the Red Cow, it will be quicker to get to Kylemore than Airton.

Having said that, my Brother works near Airton and he turns off the naas road at Rathcoole or Citwest and then meets the Blessington road that runs through Jobstown and Tallaght. He reckons that way is a bit quicker.
