I want to get a 'cheap' media type pc that I can connect to the tv. My Telly has PC input on the back with all of the appropriate connectors & at the moment I hook up the laptop for internet, music streaming etc.

I dont want to spend a fortune on it, so I guess I'm asking what ppl thinks are the minimum specs for graphics, RAM, processor etc.

Wont really be used for games that much - my CD collection is on a NAS, so I access that through the network & push it out through the tv....I run videos fo the family, YouTube - that kinda stuff.....

Any ideas - bearing in mind I'm only looking for the box & no monitor, I may be best to build ??

If it is simply for watching movies, tv shows and surfing the web a very low spec is all thats needed.

    Case/Psu/mobo/remote:

Is a fantastic deal. case motherboard, powersupply and remote control.

    Cpu:

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=336551

This is a nice speed dual core cpu, you could go with a celeron, but there is no point. As for the tiny price difference the speed of this chip will more then make up.

    Ram:

Very very cheap, but awesome ram. You can get buy with one stick if you plan on using xp, but for vista i would reccomend getting 2 sticks.

    But:

Would be more reccomended, as vista uses up a stupid ammount of memory. Atm my vista install with minimal services and nothing at startup thats not neccisery uses 1.2gb of ram :o

    Graphics card:

Since this is just a media centre/htpc i doubt you will be playing any games. but you will obviously want a multiude of connections for different things, so this card will be perfect, as it has a HD output. Which will equate to a great picture. Just dont try to play Crysis on it

    Hard drive:

There are two choices here, Do you want to hold a fair whack of stuff on this thing, or would you rather stream it all.

If you want to hold a good ammount then get this:

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=327715

Or if you prefere streaming, a smaller hard drive would be better. Like this:

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=331867

And thats about all you need really, apart from a wireless mouse and keyboard.

    I have one of these:

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=319831

And i find it great, but you can get alot cheaper.

Now i suppose what i picked there isnt really the minimum spec, but its damn close. And this will last you a few years no hassle.
