I'm trying to put together an information text for my rugby club with weekly goings on, scores etc, of course, the cheaper this can be done the better, and free is better than cheap! Does anyone use such a service, apart from the pack of free 250 webtexts per month from 02 and such which will be eaten up rather quickly I'd imagine... suggestions very welcome! cheers

What you could do is just buy about 5 O2 sim cards. that would give you 1250 txts a month. It would only cost €50 for the sim cards and then €25 every 6 months to keep them active. (I think its top up once every 6months. I could be wrong)

You could get a programmer friend to build you a small app, and then use bulk SMS from a provider like Clickatell.

    Easy peasy.

You could always enquire with the networks too about any desktop texting applications they might have!

Cant you email text or mms messages. Something like XXXXXXXXXX@mymeteor.ie, or XXXXXXXXXX@vodafone.ie. It would mean that you would need to know the number and provider of everyone in the club.

Cheers lads, good ideas there... I like the sim idea... only 10 quid for a sim can't really go wrong there! I plan on putting a few signs up around the club and getting people to text the number to subscribe, so hopefully it'll be minimal work, apart from setting up the address books for the numbers... anyone used 13434.ie? if so do they have a phonebook you can set up for grouptext or is it one text at a time? it's a cent per message there, unless anyone has any catches! :)

It seems to be only use the phone every 6 months:
If you do not Top-up or make a chargeable use of your Account (being a use which results in a reduction of the credit on your Account or use of a pre-purchased Service such as Text Bundles or any other pre-purchased service that O2 may provide from time to time) at least once in any six (6) month period O2 reserves the right to suspend the Service. If your Account is suspended for six (6) months the Service will be terminated and any credit left on your Account will be forfeited. If, following termination, you become an O2 customer again, you will not be allocated your previous number.
    Off O2.ie

So guess its now even cheaper. :)
