Im probably posting this a bit prematurely as i havent read the article in full.
    However..

according to a paper today, heart disease in ireland is down 10% since the introduction of the smoking ban.

Whats your opinions on this? can it primarily be attributed to the smoking ban at such an early stage? Have people really become more diet/fitness aware over the last 10 years which is the real reason?

Im not in the medical profession but i would rather discuss the topic here than see stupid threads appearing in after hours if thats cool!

The smoking ban was introduced a good few years ago now, about 4 is it? I guess they could attribute some of it to the smoking ban, but I can't see that it's primarily due to it. Most likely people are just becoming more aware of their health, and it's coincided nicely with the smoking ban.

Anecdotaly there seems to have been amajor drop off in heart attacks attending, seems to be less unstable angina also, It may be due to newer medication introduced over the last few years for the control of cholesterol an Blood pressure.

I recall reading somewhere recently that the prescription of statins by doctors has greatly increased in Ireland over the last few years.
