Fo me it would have to be coyote hunting in New York. Fast as hell with little jumping and pompous americans but a blast all the same. The americans fit there hounds with tracker devices. In the evening they use gps to collect stray hounds. The field is divided into "advanced" "beginner" and "second beginner". The fences are coups maybe 3" 6 high max. It was the speed of the chase that was exhilarating. So any of you guys have funny/intersting/different stories of days on horseback either in ireland or abroad??

I've a few. I took out an indian pony in the navajo desert once with an indian girl guide (who was bareback on a stallion) and we galloped through this dry canyon.

I rode at a natural horsemanship centre in tenerife where the horses were really responsive to the tiniest shift in weight and we rode with just a leather halter (rather than a bridle with a bit)
I would have liked to learn more at that place, but OH wouldnt be terribly interested.

And where I live now, I used to take my horses up the mountains and saw lots of wildlife. Its the best hacking I've ever had (thousands of acres of deciduos woodland as well) and I've never seen so much wildlife as I have in the last 3 years.

Mine was a Beautiful day out in Sligo, me and 3 friends started off from Collooney, trecked down to an area where, when the tide goes out theres a sand bar from the mainland across to a tiny island (inhabited by 3 people). We gallopped across and around the HUGE sandbar racing eachother and jumping small pools of water on the way.

Anyway we stopped on Coney island and into a tiny little pub (they have a little tie up area for the horses) had a lovely cool drink (it was a baking hot day) and remounted. Crossed to the other side of the island and theres a gorgeous unspoiled sandy bay - its quite small but long enough to get up a good gallop! Anyway, we all piled into the Atlantic and splashed and swam trotted in the waves, the horses LOVED it (it was new to my fella and he was a little timid at first) as did we.

It was an amazing day and the best part was that it wasn't guided and i was with friends. We were gone for at least 4 hours in total, i was WIPED out after, when i got off Ben at the end my two legs were like JELLY and he was bombed too but it was well worth it :D
