Larry David, a man amongst men, returns to our cousins' screens this Sunday, in what may be the last season of one of the finest comedies on television. I'll be getting mine in the post first thing monday morning.

Incidentally, the current director of Curb, whose name escapes me, is bowing out after this season, and is helming an American remake of the other great TV comedy Peep Show. :o

Oh God... i don't know... Peep Show?

I love it... but if i'd to name any British comedy which should not be remade by the American's, it is it!

This can't end well... everything about the UK one is perfect. It's out there, David Mitchell and Robert Webb are perfect at both reactions and voiceovers, it's occassionally subtle humour will not translate in any shape or form to appeal to US audiences.

PS - regarding 'Curb' .. was never a big fan myself.

I dunno. Fox made a pilot of Peep Show a few years back, but mercifully it was canned.

If anybody can capture the humour of Peep Show, it's the people behind Curb!

Anything in Curb, however good, is still a lot more heavy-handed than most the stuff in Peep Show. Subtle and American rarely sit well together.

When I read this post I suddenly remembered when they remade Fawlty Towers as Whoopi. *shudder

I felt the last season of Curb was a little bit weak.. hopefully the long break they took will mean they have some better material lined up this time around.

The incest episode is my all time favourite one.

Mine is maybe the one with the crazy nanny who worked on Looney Tunes. Gotta love her!

Fantastic news. Considering the last episode of the last series was called The End, I didn't hold out much hope of it returning.

I love the Doll episode, and the Baptism, in fact, all the episodes!

Good stuff - a big fan of Larry David with his work on both 'Seinfeld' and CYE. It's been a while since we last saw him (and I didn't expect this season either given 'The End') but I'm glad to have the most obnoxious hilarious TV character back. Let's see what social norms he baulks at this time and how many times he manages to offend people (at least half of the times of which will be Jeff's wife).

Agreed, it's as good as ever.
The Blacks are going to provide a lot of material this season methinks. They haven't even shown them onscreen properly apart from the smoker.

Not the new series. I'd imagine HBO gets it first.

It was a very good episode though... I actually pulled this same trick with the parties only a few weeks ago. I had more luck than Larry though.

I used to love this show.. but this season, larry has just been wrecking my head.. haven't been able to watch the last two at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 476 ✭✭Ryaller

I'm the exact same! I thought the first one this season was absolute genius, return to form after two pretty bad seasons etc. The next two were sh1te, next one was even worse, to the extent that I haven't been ar$ed watching the last few at all. Should have left well enough alone.

I thought that bit was quite poignant. The last scene with him sprawled on the couch with the ice-pack ? Classic LD.

FWIW re. other posters thinking CYE isn't as good as it was ? Even in second gear it is way better than most others. When in top gear, it is in a league of it's own. IMHO.

i was surprised that happened cos according to jeff garlin the new series was written before he split up with his wife although i'm sure he changed it to reflect this
