No idea on actual availability though

you will reduce the carbon footprint of your car by about 2.5% by using this fuel i have heard.

also, it is supposed to be priced very close to regular 95 ron petrol that they sell at the moment.

the biggist bonus to this fuel is the ron rating of 99.2!!!!!!
which means that jap import cars can be finally mapped to run on a higher octane of fuel instead of our crappy 95 ron = more power!!!!

if i still had my Evo V, with this fuel i would be looking at approx 40 bhp increase!!!! :D

All provided your ECU and injectors are able to deal with the extra fuel flow in addition to the octane rating of course. Its not quite as simple as just having an octane boost.

How is the RON rating 99?

edit:i see hot it is now, that is awesome. Also very few cars would have a problem running 5% ethanol, most turbo cars should be able to run at least a 20% mix no problem.

How is it 99 octane, it did not mention any octane rating on the website, is there some other way of telling....just curious :)

    Thanks.

Aparently it is 99ron,one of the lads on another forum heard that back directly from maxol.

Lots of jap performance car owners whos cars were originally mapped for 100ron should be happy now

It'd also be good to get a dyno run with normal unleaded and E5 to see if there is a noticable difference powerwise

Thats good new then, my car is supposed to be run on 98 octane so I'll be using it for sure :D

    Thanks,
    Neil.

I presume as this lowers carbon emissions there will be less excise to be paid on this no ?

Even I am not that naive.

Should be OK to run this in the Octavia 1.8T with no mods? Think they are mapped for 98ron fuel.

Woohoo. Unless its significantly more expensive I will be using this in the FTO.

I don;t think ANY unleaded car needs modifaction to run on this fuel.

This is not an extra pump Maxol are adding, they are adding 5% bio-fuel to ALL their unleaded pumps.

I would be buying this, as I like to do a bit to reduce my carbon footprint, but they're importing it from companies in Brazil that sell this type of fuel, as oppose to buying it from suppliers in Ireland, so I don't think you will be doing anything to help the environment.

This is just what I heard, I like to know if somebody can clear this up for me?

Would a naturally aspirated car mapped for 95 ron experience any increase in power or bad side effects from this?

Also, is there any change in fuel economy?

edit: Tony, this is from their website:
The bio-ethanol fuel in E5 is 100% organic and is currently made from whey, a milk derivative and a bi-product of the Carbery Milk Products Cheese plant in Ballineen, Co. Cork.

Reason for edit: removed my post which was same reply as Stephen but with bad English and wrong spelling etc.

I dunno if they mix it there but they source some of ingredients here.
I saw that myself, it was just something heard, maybe it was just bullsh1t.

I think they should mix it with bio fuel gained from silage and call it..........

    wait for it.....

Same engine as my car so hopefully they can run it ok.

I think you should always believe everything you hear then nothing really surprises you! :D

Seriously : how do Maxol compare generally for A: quality and b: Price - I can't think of a Maxol near me but I would defo change to this if price wise it was on par (which they say it will be) and its decent stuff.

In my locality pretty much every petrol station (including maxol) has the same prices

Only down side is i can't use my motorcard there - its currently saving me approximately 5 cents per litre off the statoil pump price.

The calorific value (energy value) of the fuel is less the real 98/99 RON that they get in the UK becuase of the ethanol blend.

So you get extra det protection of the 99RON but not quite the amount of bang as say Shell V-power(UK only).

But if your ECU can adapt to the higher RON rating and advance the timing, gains could be had. However i doubt many Irish cars are mapped for higher than 95. My S2000 is mapped for 98, so I'll see how that goes

Not sure how the ethanol content will affect the engines either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,484 ✭✭✭Gerry

Yep, the calorific value will be slightly reduced, and the ecu will need to trim its fuel map, but only slightly. All cars sold after 1986 have to be able to cope with E10 if they were ever sold in the US. Please stop scaremongering.
I've been running some ethanol in my turbo car for a while now, for the latest tank I've tried a mixture of 16% ethanol, seems to work very well, no detonation at all.

I think it's important to recognise that burning ethanol produces less CO2 and that it will reduce your carbon footprint. Burning Ethanol produces CO2, the same as petrol (or anything for that matter).
The source of the carbon is newer, that's all. It's not a miracle cure

Anyone seen this at the pumps yet? Im also going to miss out on using my Statoil fuelcard.. perhaps there is a Maxol version. Would like to try mixing the E5 with dash of E85.. :D

Will this be ok to run in cars like a Nissan Micra?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,663 ✭✭✭stealthyspeeder

In before the zombie thread lock!

Ps yes it will work in your micra!
