Well, it does look straight forward, but very time consuming. If you ever wanted to get a high quality classic to practice your DIY skills, you have something to keep you entertained this side of Xmas (at least).

See the long list of bits and parts that you will have to examine and consider changing while the head(s) is (are) off. You would do this on your own car but if the seller agrees to do the job to offload the car he will certainly not put the patience and passion into this: it will make no financial sense for him, certainly not at €80/hour...

When I was considering rebuilding the engine on my MGB I was told that it is hard to find precision machining shops in Ireland. So if on top of it you have to send your head to milled in the UK...

If you ever decide to take the head off yourself, I am quite sure you will find lots of folks here ready to help you.

    Good luck.

PS a friend of mine just had exactly the same problem you describe on a ... modern Toyota Previa Turbo Diesel. The mechanic sees about one of them every week at the moment... So **** happens. :(

There is nothing to fear in that job at all really .
The only thing that might give you grief is the exhaust bolts , use freeze spray ( forget about wd40 and get a 6 point socket for this job ) . If you still don't have joy don't keep at them , you'll only start breaking stuff . Hire/borrow an oxy-acetylene kit with a small nozzle and use heat to loosen them .

There are enough decent machine shops here , no need to sending heads anywhere.
