is it just me and my friends or dos gamestop piss other people off too??!!
for ages ive been harbouring this, and today just makes me want to rant.
hell,i know they have great bargainss, sometimes but its just simple stuff that annoys me.
when i bought my psp for instance, looking for a copy of monster hunter (new or used) and all they have is used (fair enough) but its 45 euros???!!
wat the hell is with their prices on second hand games, its ridiculous.
when i went into both the carlow and newbridge stores, they had a list of upcoming games, monster hunter freedom 2 was listed as released the 31st of august. the 1st of sept i phoned them and asked was it in stock and the guys tone just pissed me right off, "ehh no,thats not in till like eh next week"
yet when i went into the carlow branch today the poster still says the 31st of august, why cant they change it???
and also when i ask do u stock the datel tool psp battery, the guy looked at me as if i just said something really weird. "no,we dont stock anything unofficial like that!!"
em,ok fair enough...aghhh they annoy me soo much lately.
apologies for my wall o text, i just wish there was a game/media store that would at least give them competition in the kildare carlow area...
    goddam it,

    =) end of rant

tbh xtra vision piss me off...the price they offer for ps3 games is riduculous..ninja gaiden is 70euro there and they offered me 30euro for it and that was to get something in store and they also offered me 20euro for motorstorm...i am surprised they even get trade ins as them prices are riduculous...and they look to get 50-60euro for each game which they are really only given you half of what its really worth..

70 is a ridiculous price for games.
i have to say i love xtravision for the 2nd hand rare dvds i find for like 8euro but i never buy games off em.
altho i did see eragon new in extravision for 9.99 whereas gamestop had it 2nd hand for somethin like 18- 24 euro.
    add that to my gripes!

Oh lads, I was just in Gamestop asking about the new PSP lite and was told it wouldnt be in until 2 months time!!! That has to be a mistake as its due out today but really was not expecting it to be in shops today but 2 months time is ridiciously

Yes, why can't shops offer high prices for second hand games and then sell them on at low prices. :)

I'm not a fan of Game, don't get me started!

I reckon there is price fixing going on. At least between Game and Gamestop and possibly HMV. There is little or no variation in prices at all. Practically no competition.

I read that Gamestop have had reputation destroyed in the States with the shoddy way they do business.

Getting less stock of new titles -- people buy them elsewhere -- trade them in there after a week or two after purchase -- selling the used game for almost the same price new.

    In my local Gamestop:

Resident Evil: Wii Edition (New): E44.99
Resident Evil: Wii Edition (Used): E39.99

Let's not forget you need to trade 2 Wii Games in to get a new title - imagine the markup!

Since moving to the UK I've found Gamestation to be a much better shop than either Gamestop or Game. It's a pity they've no branches in Ireland.

Of course Gamestation were recently bought by Game so I'm sure that will all end soon.

Gamespot aren't the worst though. I'd much rather take them over Game or HMV or Virgin, from my experiences in Dublin at least.

I rather GameStop & HMV to Game & Virgin. Though Virgin do have good prices on new releases.

ye Gamestop are useless. They ruined Gamesworld when they took them over that used to be a great shop they had a great 2nd hand trade and usually the cheapest shop around and with some good friendly staff.

    HMV ftw!

although the Grafton St store, the games are downstairs, you always feel like you're going down to some seedy burlesque underground porn palace type place..

    oh.. .

    thats just me so.. :o

Gamestop are good for finding cheap ps2 games and dvds 2nd hand.Useless for everything else.

I miss when smyths used be decent game dealers. they were always a min of 5 quid cheaper than game. Game seem to specialise in the slowest staff ever. Gamestop have had no real problems, i buy most online anyway unless its a must have title.

Actually, Gamesworld hasn't changed at all since it changed to gamestop, they weren't "taken over" at all but bought a large share in the company and invested heavily in it, allowing it to expand, now instead of having to pay the extortionate prices in a toy shop or video shop, up and down the country you have a choice with a Gamestop branch fairly near everyone.
As for the price issues, they occur everywhere, Game, Smyths, Gamestop, there are as many 2nd hand bargains as there are "ripoffs" and if a recent game is in 2nd hand one should expect it to be high.
I do agree it is frustrating to see a 2nd hand title with a mere €5 saving but don't buy it then.
As for unhelpful staff, those you get everywhere, stand up for yourself, instead of ranting safely online, ask for the manager and say something, don't be a wuss!
Official release dates and the date a store actually receives a game can vary, much to the annoyance of customers, but this is beyond the control of the store in question, if you have a problem, or if information on signs is wrong, then, once again, say it to the manager, do something proactive instead of griping about it online.
And as for the above comment about a memory card being cheaper online than in a high street shop, I mean thats unheard of! I mean, who would have ever thought about shopping around?
And as for buying a game and finding it missing, the filing system the shops use ius simple, the games are prewrapped to include disc and manual, then popped into the game case you took from the shelf, not many would notice if something is missing at the point, its not that common and so one is not looking out for it, just return to the store with the game and say it to the staff and you'll get a replacement or your money back, this has happened to me from time to time, in Game, Gamestop and Virgin and I have never had a problem having the thing sorted.
I hope this has been useful to you, I used to work in Gamesworld many years ago, 10 to be exact, in Abbey Street and Liffey Street, I still shop in Santry and know how helpful the staff are, if they are run off their feet then you can't expect too much personal attention, and they can't help when the release lists they have in hardcopy is mistaken.

ive complained in gamestop before sir,and its gotten me nowhere.
as for ur comment about me complaining using the safety of the internet...WTF???
i started my rant (and yes,i admitted from post 1 its a rant) to see if it was just me ad my friends pissed off with gamestop, and lo and behold, people have sed they are or arent, or hey prefer somewhere else or they think xtravision is worse.
"And as for the above comment about a memory card being cheaper online than in a high street shop, I mean thats unheard of! I mean, who would have ever thought about shopping around?"
    sarcasm appreciated lol
let me remind you that im talking about newbridge and carlow branches - the ones im very familiar with, hell i go into carlow gamestop possibly 3 times a week when im in college.
dont get so defensive,i did say theyve great bargains on dvds and ps2 games.
and on friday, i bought monster hunter freedom 2 in there (excellent game!!!)
coming back to your whole complaining point, few years ago i went in looking for a memory stick, asked the guy at the counter if the 1 gigs would work in my sony phone (this was pre my knowledge of technologies) and even showed him the phone,he assured me it would work,
found out it didnt,as the max size for the s700 was 128megs and when i tried to return it(even calling the manager) i was told no way, even though the employee told me it would defo work.
"And as for buying a game and finding it missing, the filing system the shops use ius simple, the games are prewrapped to include disc and manual, then popped into the game case you took from the shelf, not many would notice if something is missing at the point, its not that common and so one is not looking out for it, just return to the store with the game and say it to the staff and you'll get a replacement or your money back, this has happened to me from time to time, in Game, Gamestop and Virgin and I have never had a problem having the thing sorted."
as for this comment, wats to stop them denying this poor guys problem and suggesting he is lying?
end of return rant.... for now
    lol

If they wouldn't take the memory card back I wold agree you were hard done by and I can only suggest going over the managers head, ringing head office of the store and make a strong complaint.
As fot returning games with missing disks, once its phoned in as soon as it is got home and you keep the receipt I don't see why you should have a problem, perhas make a point of checking the game is intact when you are handed it, just as you are expected to check your change before leaving the counter, simply a matter of taking precautions, but never the less, I have never had a problem returning games or Cds that had missing items, for example I recently returned a copy of Medal Gear Solid 2 Substance that someone had replaced the main disc with a normal MGS2 disc, in spanish, I got my money back.
If anyone has brought a game straight back and explained the problem then was refused a replacement then complain, go as high as you have to.
If you return an empty game case and are looking for something different or cash returned then you can hardly complain that it looks suspicious, no?
And I don't think I'm being defensive, just being a foil to your self confessed rant. I have offered suggested solutions to your problems and differed where I felt you were wrong. No offence intended.

i hope u arent writing these lengthy replies for my benefit,im grand and am (thankfully) without need for advice concerning gamestop. ;)
as for some of the other posters, yeah, maybe they need advice, but em, i dunno, yes....so anyhoo.
hopefully a gamestop employee sees this tread and sez hell , we can improve, and they do, that or another shop, sez hey, they want competition.
thats my point, ireland needs more competition in gaming.
thats my point, i dont have a vendetta against them, cuz if they werent around,id be even more pissed off, but we do need more options in places other than dublin.

Right, so called "lengthy" replies are just responses to what you and others have been saying,
seeing as many seem to have a lot of gripes and few people seem to have any answers. You did set the agenda there by making several of your own posts "lengthy" so I see no reason in not responding in kind.
As for the people needed advice, if you don't want an alternate point of view aired why post here? Thats what we are here to do, disagree, agree and debate stuff.
As for areas outside Dublin requiring more choice in where to buy games, yes I agree, but what you don't know, presumably because of your relative youth, was how things were up to 9 or 10 years ago, when, and I know this because I was in college in Sligo back between 90 and 93, the only places to get videogames were in toy shops and video rental stores, even Xtravision didn't sell them at the time, prices were very high and there were no dedicated games retailers outside of the capital and the likes of Cork and Galway.
Now at least we have a dedicated games retailer in nearly every town, this has offered more options to the Irish gamer and we can blame the absence of the likes of Game in smaller towns on the fact that they are wholly British owned and have no interest in serving the needs of the country outside of the large out of town shopping malls.

And I don't assume you have a "Vendetta" against Gamestop or anyone else, that would be both stupid and childish, so good for you ;)

alright, well i think our banter is over, ive nothing to retort haha.
but i like ur arguements and respect ur views, true also back in the mid nineties, (yes i can remember,i had rich friends lol) there were few good places for snes games.
as of now my pissed offedness with gamestop (among other places) is taking a back seat, monster hunter two, amen
