Just read an interesting article on the final season of The Wire, due for release in January 2008 (see link below). The 5th Season's central theme will be the media and filming ended just a couple of days ago. Wikipedia states that there will be only 10 episodes in this last season, although there is no mention of this in the article.

    Article:
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/09/02/AR2007090201454_pf.html

Thought this was a bit scary:
...Felicia "Snoop" Pearson, who did time as a teenager for killing a 16-year-old girl, made her acting debut last season, playing an assassin...

Did the makers plan for there to be only 10 episodes in the 5th series or were HBO only prepared to finance that many?

Not sure about the 10 episodes, my guess is maybe David Simon wanted it that way. In any case, the final episode (like in Season 4) is about an hour and a half which will be cool.

Even though the show is for the most part not predictable, my guess is in Season 5
Michael will kill Omar Little, simply because when Omar and his buddy were scouting out Marlo's gang, Omar referred to him as 'just a kid'

BTW what's the story with the shot of Rolls appearing in a gay bar back in Season 3 - there was no more references to this afterwards (apart from when Jay sees some graffitti in the bathroom which says 'Rolls sucks c**k') ?

who is Jay? I can't remember

I remember that bit with Rolls in the Gay bar. Definitely expect to see that developing (eh..but I don't want to see too much if you know what I mean;))

I'm glad they just left it there and didn't go anywhere with it. It was quite funny and it seems clear that Jay doesn't know that Rawls really is gay.

He's Jay Landsman - the rotund homicide sergeant that occasionally acts as a buffer between Rawls and McNulty.

Damn shame it has to end. I remember watching Season One on TG4 ad being hooked. Every aspect of the show was perfect. I think my only complaint has been that there just isnt enough of it.

I've mixed feelings about season five being the last. On one hand, you can't have enough but on the other hand, you probably can really - we don't want a decline in quality and we've had four pretty much perfect seasons up until this. I also admire the idea of just sticking to your convictions and filming the five seasons as that's the story, and world, you want to explore.

    Roll on January '08 then.
