I just started work as a production operator with <snip>, its a contract role but I feel like im making the wrong decision as I have a diploma in chemistry and 3 years exp which makes me way over qualified for the job, I was supposed to go back to college fulltime to do my hons degree which would lead to a much better job but im not really sure woring in the lab is the best for me, im worried at 29 that I need to be able to make these hard decisions.Another idea i have is to work in <snip> for 6 months and then go travelling for 6 months and then go back to college, it would only take me 9 months to get the degree so I would still be only 31, retraining on something completely new is also a thought but going back to college at 30 for 4 years is a bit daunting, any thoughts?

Juanveron45, I'm fearful of giving advice to you in case I might confuse you even further than you already are.

I will say this - you really need to learn how to make a decision and then stick to it, but I fear the grass will always be greener and to tempting for you.

juanveron45 I'd agree with the above advice wholeheartedly

You need to make a decisions and stick to it.

There may be no magic job that suddenly fulfills your life and makes you lay all these doubts to rest.

You just need to make a plan, perhaps a 3 year one, decide what you want to have achieved by the end of it, and then go about doing that.

In the job you've just started what are the prospects for advancement, what will the experience give you in terms of opportunities? etc.?

Also you've just started, so you haven't settled - give it a few months.

Also you shouldn't list the job and company, as you don't want them reading these messages.

I took the references to the company out of your original post Juan for your own sake. You don't want to make it obvious who you work for on here in this kind of instance. It doesn't make your decision any clearer but could reflect poorly on you if someone from the company reads this forum.

Other than that, as others have said, you need to learn to choose a path and stick with it at least for a decent period of time before longingly staring at greener grass et al.
