How do you stop PC trying to index or create thumbnails for avi's?

Running Vista, Pc is fine except when I browse a folder containing avi's, it immediately slows to a crawl, then stops responding - probably trying to create thumbnails or other.

None of the avi's are corrupt, all are able to play. All hotfixes related that I can find have been applied and the Pc is up to date with security fixes.

File copying etc of the avi files is fine using dos commands.

    Codecs have been checked/updated.

Is there a way I can turn off the indexing or whatever it's trying to do ?

right click < view < list

To turn of indexing, open up search and the option to only index certain places is in there.

Although they play there is probably something subtle wrong with one of the AVI's in the folder that is causing the problem. Removing to or repairing it would no doubt correct it.

Also just in case the only codec packs you should be using is the CCCP anything else is not worth it or just ffdshow tryout on it's own.

You can disable the thumbnails globally by doing the following.
