Was hoping to start a forum for the best homebrew games for the DS. If you have been playing a homebrew game that you think is good why don't you share with the rest of us! I'll get the ball rolling!

    Name:
    Warcraft : Tower Defence (V 0.4 beta)

Ease of Use: (Using an R4) Easy - Applied DLDI patcher to the .nds file,
Put "towerdefence.nds" and the folder "maps" on the R4 card (the .nds file can be anywhere on the card but the folder maps must be at the root)

Quality of Game: Really good - Looks clean and sharp, wouldn't look too far out of place as a comercial game , the graphics aren't great but honestly its a polished looking game. Even things like when you close the screen you here a goblin type voice saying "me busy, leave me alone" add to its effect.

    Title screen

    In Game

    More screen shots

Gameplay & Objective: Have you ever played desktop defence or flash element? Well its very similar to them! For those who haven't, your objective is to build towers around a maze to stop "creeps" getting to the other side. Each time you kill a "creep" you get gold. Gold can be used to build new towers and also upgrade existing ones.

Conclusion: I don't have it long so i can't comment on the life span of it, but at this price...free you really cant go wrong! The game overall takes up less than 4mb also there is extra maps that can be downloaded off the website. A map editor is also included if your feeling adventurous!

Bottom Line:I defiantly think its worth the download

    Name:
    DS Doom

Ease of Use: Medium - First you patch the "DSDoom.nds" file, then put it in a new folder named "DOOM", then drag this folder and the 3 other files(doom.wad , PRBOOM.CFG , prboom.wad) to the root. (Reply if you can't figure this out i'll try explain better!)HINT: While in game menu the "select" button is the enter button

Quality of Game: As original, its a perfect port as far as i can tell. A map is added on the bottom screen. Controls are decent.

    dsdoom_shot1.jpg
In game - poor quality picture

Gameplay & Objective: Its Doom , you know the drill! Well if you've being living under a rock for your entire life its a first person shooter where your fighting all sorts of crazy stuff(Aliens and the like)

Conclusion: If you liked the pc version get this, you wont be too dissapointed! If you havent played he pc version... try it you might like it! Its about 5mb for the whole game

Bottom Line: If you like first person shooters defiantly get this!

worldofsand. The falling sand game for your ds. Highly addictive. Nice and small too. Just drag and drop to an r4.

Just trying to remember what else I have on my homebrew card.

Ah yes. COLORS. Best drawing application I've seen for the DS. It has some really cool features like transparencies. The DS touch screen is pressure sensitive, which means it allows the program to work like a Wacom tablet. Different pressure will give different intensities of colour.

Plus it saves the pictures to jpeg or something similar :)

    Also no DLDI needed.

Constellations DS. Nice little astronomy app which maps out some stars. I haven't really had a chance to look it over properly. Seems interesting enough if you're into that kind of thing.

Explosive gas - Bomberman type clone. Works wirelessly.

Beup live - MSN for the DS. First version I tried didnt work but the update I got does perfectly. It's the 0.3e version.

Serious quality stuff here! Can't wait to try and find the time to try them out. Colors I was well impressed with! Never got Beup working, but admittedly it's probably an older version. Heard about the Lemmings version, looks class! And I was looking for a Bomberman clone...
Ah, I remember the good ol' days when I had the time to write software... *sniff*

Make sure the .nds file is in a folder on the root drive called "DOOM" and that all the other files (doom.wad , PRBOOM.CFG , prboom.wad) are at the root of the drive ... its absolutely essential that its like this(I think!) So you should have a "DOOM" folder and the 3 files at the root of the card!

Did you try running the DLDI patcher on it? Try using the latest firmware?
You can find both in my starter pack here
    R4DS Starter Pack by Witnessmenow

But you should be able to find both with a google search.

    Good Luck! & Keep Trying!

As fart as i know you just put the "lemmingsds_config.txt" file at the rrot of your ds. It works for me anyways! Dooms pretty cool alright! Theres a duke nukem port too put there is awful confusion over a .grp file which makes it complicating to install!

hi could someone help me installing lemmings, i have the ds x card, i have put the patch into the lemmings folder and then put into the apps folder of the card, i have then put the text file in the main page. big black screen:mad: what am i doing wrong?

finally got lemmingsDS working :D its awesome(if a lil too easy)

To install Lemmings DS, you’ll need to do the following:

    1. Download the Lemmings DS rom from the Downloads page.

    2. Extract it into a directory on your hard drive.

    3. Patch lemmingsds_dldi.nds using one of the tools on this page.(use the one witnessmenow included in their starter pack)

    4. Copy everything within the LemmingsDS directory to somewhere on your flash media.

    5. Open up the lemmingsds_config.txt with a text editor, and follow the instructions to set the inital preferences.(ignore this part)

    6. Copy lemmingsds_config.txt to the root of your flash media.

    7. Turn on your DS, select lemmingsds_dldi.nds from your menu, and play!

my DoomDS is very buggy :( it often crashes or wont load saves.

are there any good GBA emulators around? ive tried both visualboy and no$gba but to no avail :( (i would buy the carts, but i specifically want titles that are hard to find or long sold out(ive looked :()

The patccher in my pack WONT work for your Ds X card the way it is now!
If you've downloaded my pack download this too

Open the DLDI patcher and load the above file into it.
Then you can use it to patch your homebrew stuff and hopefully that works for ya!

If you haven't downloaded the pack this is the DLDI patching tool

As for doom i didn't get a chance to go far in doom so i have no idea what the stability after the first level!

As for GBA EMU you could try getting a slot 2 cart for your ds. I taught visual boy was ment to be decent though

Got quake working yesterday, its pretty cool! Quite difficult to set up though as you need .pak files from the original(or i believe the shareware version) game.

Sorry for diggin up an old thread but i didn't see a point in starting a new one!

DSorganize has a built in web browser that doesn't need the expansion pack to work. It supports pictures too!

Fair play to em. Although it's pretty pointless as no r4 owner should be without one of these ;)
