And if so, is it available on any sort of video / DVD / Download?

    But surely you were there?

    ;)

I'm not sure if it was televised, but I have seen footage of it on RTE in the last 12 months. Have you tried youtube?

You could just ask one of the 975,000 people at the match... I am sure one of them had a camcorder!!!

No and they don't have footage of the whole game as far as I know which is generally why you only ever see the try and the hit on the NZ winger.

They have about 18 minutes of it on tape still, I believe. They did release a DVD/video about it a couple of years ago, very heavy on commentary and reminiscence because of the lack of actual game footage.

According to the excellent account in "stand up and fight" the match coincided with the launch of RTE 2 (also featured in reeling in the years last night) and so all the extra outside broadcast units were in Cork (I think) filming the festivities over that.

There were only two cameras at the game, from a freelance crew IIR, and I believe one was only there as backup in case the main one failed which is why the coverage is so patchy and camera angles so bad.

    What he said!

RTE didnt send a crew down on the basis that they didnt expect Munster to win. I was only 27 days old, and wasnt taken (my dad did go) and to this day I am still giving out that he didnt take me! :p

Thomand capacity ~12,000 number at the game that day 1.726 million and counting

While the official attendance was only 975,000, it is widely accepted that in fact the whole population of Ireland was at the game, approx 5000000 people, which justifies RTE's decision that there was no point transmitting it.
