Alright lads, I've had some banter with o1s1n about GBBs recently.

    Now, given that:
    * my Galaxy MP7 is paid for and due any day;
    * it's my Birthday soon;
    * JG is about to release their SIG 552 Seals, which is bound to be cheaper than TM's so I don't have to save for it anymore;

... I'm now considering having an attempt at overcoming my gas prejudice - so I'm in the market for a metal GBB.

I've done some homework about it - which is to say I've looked at what's available, what models I actually like, and now it's decision time.

KSC H&K USP Compact Metal Version
KJ USP Compact (Metal Slide version)
KWC P99 (will need add. metal slide)
SIIS P99 (will need add. metal slide)
Maruzen P99 Compact (will need add. metal slide)
    HFC HG165 (Full Metal, Black)

I now humbly bow before my GBB-owning brethren in these here Forum parts, and beg for pros/cons/advice as to which one to go for - based on brand first and foremost, obviously (I know some of ye are going to berate me coz they're all small affairs :D)

As I have a KJW Sig P226 I would say go with the KJ one as its my favourite metal GBB.

On the other hand my fav pistol of all is the M1911A1 from WA, but not in metal.

I have the KJW p226 aswell, full metal, nice balance but quite heavy. Cant comment about the performance as im still waiting on the gas to arrive.

The KJW U226! Hands down! Brilliant gun!

I have yet to experience the joy of owning a working pistol myself. Been doing some research into finding what the most reliable one on the market is. (As I am sick of owning non functioning GBBs)

The KSC g19 keeps coming up. I know a lot of people aren't mad on the look of Glocks. The thing is so reliable though that I'm think it's going to be my next purchase.

Anyway, check out the reliability of the GBBs on your list. Function over looks is pretty important...which I have found out myself the hard way.

I like the USP compact, but its a bit girly for more liking so I got the KSC USP .45 full size. Excellent gun, but my trigger snapped after about 5000 rounds and i pulled it whilst the saftey was on. :(

So I went out and bought a brand new one, except I got this custom KSC USP from UNcompany with upgraded recoil spring, full metal slide and barrel and 2 upgraded magazines for $186, EXCELLENT value. And in my opinion, the best looking GBB on the market.

*** Nods heartily in agreement ***

got one of these on friday and all i can say is Wow!

was planning on eventually upgrading it with a metal slide but it's not even necessary, it's heavyweight abs and feels great, given that the real glocks arent metal, the abs is actually probably more realistic, not sure on fps as i haven't chrono'd it, but it's nicely accurate, has adjustable hop and it's very very nice to fire.

ambro: if your willing to forego the full metal requirement, the g19 is definitely worth getting, or even just add the metal slide, but like i said, that's not even necessary.

Edit: voodoo: that usp looks nice alright, think ill have to add that to me "i want" list

    .

You lucky git! I was considering it for a while. Someone handed me one at Salute and my jaw hit the floor. It's so much nicer in person than I thought it would be.

I read somewhere that you need to have some of the internals upgraded to steel so it'll handle propane/green gas.

UNcompany do a custom one which is pre upgraded to handle it. Out of stock at the moment though :(

    Where'd you get yours from?

Sure is a beaut, but it annoyed me after I bought it in that there is a slightly more expensive version that has the trades engraved like the real USP; thats why the trades on mine are white cos they're stamped on. Ah well.

Oh, and i'd like to retract my statement about it being the best looking GBB out there, I forgot about the WA 1911A1! :D

didnt hear anything about it needing to be upgraded, the internals are all mainly steel from what i can see and it feels solid enough, i've run a few mags through it on propane no problem.

Got mine from ehobbyasia, they do the g17 aswell, but i think the g19 is a newer model and supposedly more reliable. If you wanna have a look at it ill drop out your way, aslong as you can provide me with bbs :D

Hey Gandalf, have you had the p226 chronoed yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,170 ✭✭✭✭ED E

Fired that beast, i'd say its around 300fps guessing by the range and accuracy shooting it at hrta. Rough estimate though.

    I got a KJW P226 and an M9.
I find the P226 to cycle better and its less picky about gas.
134A works fine on the P226 but the M9 does not work well with it.
(Funny cos they are both supposed to be more or less propane!!!
EDIT: Think I am wrong 134a it may be less pressure than propane)

The Design of the gas and hop up system on the P226 looks a bit
more complicated sturdy and modern compared to the M9.
(I am guessing the M9 is of an older design)
The P226 has a tighter fit the M9 slide there is a little play on it.

The M9 gives a better "kick" than the P226 though.
And feels and sounds more impressive when fireing it.

I got pics of the P226 Hopup inner slide.
(I have the file names named incorrectly:

P226 you adjust the hop up with the dial
    kjw-p226-slide.jpg

M9 you need a tiny Allen key to adjust hop up.

I got one of these, theyre excellent! Got the one with olive drab one, looks great, though Ive not got pics of it as Im still missing a front sight for it (apparently a problem with aftermarket slides for the ksc, so one to watch out for for you! mine came withone in the first place :( )

really making me want a compact, but I just dont like how it says 'compact' on it :(

Ive been looking at pistols myself recently. A few have appeared that look absolutely brilliant. WE seem like good value as far as i can see so a few by them im thinking about are:

    WE Baby Hi-Capa 3.8 CS Version-SV
    we-baby3.8-cs-sv_big.jpg

WE Baby Hi-Capa 3.8 CS Version
    we-baby3.8-cs_big.jpg

WE M1911 (Full Metal with Trademark)
    we-m1911a1-marking_big.jpg

I think those 3 are probably the nicest ones i have seen so far and not too expensive.

Edit: Anyone know the fps of the above actually? I havent seen anything on any site about it. Cheers.

I think some hi-capas can be pushing 350. So you'd want to check that out before ordering.

That full metal 1911...wow. Is it expensive?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,715 ✭✭✭Nalced_irl

the 1911 is $148 with the trademarks or $95 without. I like the marks tho so may be worth the extra. Oh yea, without trademarks is on eirsoft anyway so would get it from there if i go for that.

Ah right! Didn't see it was the WE one. I assumed it was a full metal version of the KSC.

They're some very nice pics of it indeed.

Also, just because im a fiend for Lugers (ever since firing one in Laos) ill add this:

    Tanaka Luger P-08 4 Inch-HEAVY WEIGHT $200

So how much did it cost you in total? I'm starting to get one of those situations where I keep looking it up online. May give in pretty soon. Paypal is a dangerous thing.

Thanks for the offer to drop out. Wouldn't be able for it at the moment though. Haven't even been able to stand up yet :D

Not to mention I've been out of bbs for nearly a month!

I have the same front sight problem! God damn thing just slid off by itself after a few days, i thought it was the hard kickback of the recoil spring. I had to superglue it back on and even then it came off again. Hope it stays on this time round...

€120 altogether incl shipping, but that included an extra g19 mag and a spring set for my m9, it's $120 for the g19 on it's own without shipping.
oh, and i got charged €15 customs at the door.

Lads, can I just say - firstly, thank you very, very much for all the posts, the info and the pix. Next, I was dead set (i) on a compact size and (ii) away from Glocks, yet I find myself increasingly looking at them... Still not ruled out a P99 Compact or a USP Compact, but the Glocks have my attention - and now at least I know that full-metal ain't the be all and end all. I might wait 'til Saturday and have a neb at any pistol that will be at HRTA (I'll ask nicely :)), before I take the final plunge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

i should hopefully be at hrta on saturday morning for an hour or two if you wanna have a look at my g19

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,986 ✭✭✭ambro25

Will take you up on that, if you're around - thx 'k

Current choice is now narrowed between Maruzen P99, KSC H&K USP Compact and a KSC Glock (undecided which model).

There's something really appealing about the g19. The compactness of it seem to have gotten rid of whatever aesthetic I found annoying about the other models.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,917 ✭✭✭Wossack

yea, of all the glocks, the midsize ones I find most appealing - id love a ksc g19 ;)

alas funding is being diverted elsewhere :(
