Machine Readable Passport

Heading to the U.S. in October for a few days and while my passport is in date for another few years I hear that I need to get one of the fancy new ones to enter the U.S.A.?

Does this mean I will have to go through the process of getting a new passport and pay the 75 euro?

Or is there some way to "update" my current one to make it machine readable?

Its more than likely machine readable anyway (if it was done in the last 10 years)

I don't think any of the biometric ones are in production yet, you are safe. Just be prepared to be fingerprinted and photographed in Dublin (if going direct).:)
