What is "Bump"

Not specifically related to photography but have been on the adverts.ie site a number of times recently just to see what's selling. Can anyone tell me what "bump" means? Have seen it a lot on some of the items.

When a thread gets pushed off the first page of a forum, people "bump" it back up to the top by posting in it.

An attempt to literally "bump" the thread to the head of the page, so it will get more notice.

just "bumping" their thread/sale back up to the top of the forum when it's been inactive for a while

I'd wager the OP saw it on a photography related advert over on adverts?

Some mods get pissed off with people bumping threads on forums though, and although I could be wrong I think its against some forum charters
