Replacement piston advice

    All right gear-heads,

My ICS M4-CQB has effectively chipped a piston tooth and now the gears arent catching the piston correctly so I have to get a new one.

I am know that Systema, Gaurder and a few other companies are producing pistons in a range of materials from aluminium to teflon to polycarbonate and I am wondering if anyone has replaced parts or uprgaded using one of these funky pieces of kit?

I am looking primarily for strength and reliability and rate of fire as a nice bonus so let me know folks.

Is getting one with half teeth for RoF worth it? What about materials? And the weight?

I'd reccomend getting a polycarbonate one. A metal one might strip your gears and those isc ones will be expensive to replace

Luckily the ICS gears are bomb proof :) All metal chunky things.

id agree with polycarbonate, having steel gears running against aluminium just has bad idea written all over it in my mind.

have a guarder piston in my mp5, which has been fully upgraded to 1 joule with about 20+rps and never had a problem with it, i'd say all the high end ones are basically the same, but i wouldnt turn my nose up at the element ones on rsov either, they're quite cheap and seem to be of semi-decent quality.

The element ones are excellent quality.

Why the polycarbonate over the aluminium? Just for strength?

Its lighter, cheaper, better rof and less likley to damage/wear your gears regardless of how strong they are.

Excellent, and which manufacturer? Sytema or Guarder? (I want the better stuff so this **** doesnt happen again)

Id say systema. While your at it It might be worth your while replacing the spring (orignal would have bedded down a little) cylider, piston head and cylinder head and air nozzle.

ever hear of "if it aint broken, dont fix it"

it's an ICS, they're quite good, i wouldnt bother going and replacing all of that, maybe the spring if you wanted to upgrade, but that depends on personal preference and what fps your getting at the moment.

I think its hitting about 290 ish so I dont really see the need for much more power than that. The lighter bolt and increased rof might be good though, I tend to provide suppressing fire in controlled bursts so putting large clouds of fire down field as quick as possible.

Actualy, the aluminium one i was refering to is stripped of eccess weight and is therefore lighter then the poly ones while still being stronger so less strain on the gears.

I think it was his point about having steel against aluminium, the steel is gonna strip the aluminium.
