Im thinking about getting the US import version of LAIR for the PS3 but I have only got €35 on my 3V voucher. Does anyone know of import game website that I can get this game for around that price?

It's not a great game. I'd save your money.

that's a bit of a sweeping statement, have you played it?

granted there's been some bad reviews, but there's also been some great reviews*as well.

Yes I did play it. I was in America when it was released and had a good 20 minutes on it at a game store to decide if I'd get it. Wasn't impressed at all. As the reviews say the six-axis controls are terrible and it just isn't that exciting at all despite looking gorgeous.

As for the reviews it's getting, from metacritic I see it has only 1 good review from Play magazine, a publication noted for 2 things:
    1: It's a horrendous publication
2: Giving bloated scores and reviews to sub standard Sony exclusives.

The rest say it's either average or downright terrible. The main problems as I mentioned are the terrible controls and the lack of excitement.

    meh, okay. :(

apparently the latest 1.92 FW update has made a difference to the controls. not sure how much to, but i reckon i'll still get it anyway, but i'll have had to have worn out Warhawk first. which reminds me, how does it compare to the sixaxis controls in Warhawk?

I heard the six axis controls in warhawk, which I haven't played, weren't great either or at least are vastly inferior to the dual analogue control method. The problem with Lair is that more often than not the six axis doesn't pick up on the gestures you make or does something completely the opposite to what you were trying to do. The guy in the gamestore was telling me that it was a very pretty game but you just didn't have a clue what was going on due to the random nature of the controls. After the failure of the six axis controls in lair, heavenly sword and warhawk I'm being to think that the six axis motion control is very badly implemented compared to the Wii motion sensing (which while not perfect is at least consistent unlike in the mess that is Lair).

The 1.92 update was for US and japanese machines only. It was released in order to fix stability and compatibility issues with US and Japanese games only and had no affect on european machines.

If you wait a few weeks you'll probably be able to pick the game up cheap in the bargin bins.

That article actually says that it was effective for US and japanese games only. Lair isn't released for another month here so their statement can still be true but include fixes for lair in Europe.

While its far from the best game ever made.............I have played far, far worse down the years..

Have only played the first few missions, but I think anyone who enjoys shallow shooters such as Rogue Squadron etc, will find something they like about the game.
I'm not sure what anyone was expecting other than this..

Of course, control is a decisive factor here.........if you cannot adapt to the controls, you'll detest the game. Personally I don't have too much of a problem with this end, as it can be quite natural to play at times.
Violent lurches with the sixaxis are a no go as the game requires a delicate touch, which by all accounts, some people pick up right away and some don't..
Any enjoyment in the game will of course be stripped away if not......a fact which has obviously led to some lower than average scores.

There are a number of vids doing the rounds showing you the difference in control methods, with slight tilts and motion proving Factor5's version of events..

Whether or not the game would be better with standard stick, is a question I cannot answer (especially after only limited playtime), but as has been seen with Warhawk flight controls (excellently done by the way), perseverance breeds its own rewards..

Graphics are, at times amazing, and at times functional........lighting is generally excellent and the game can be quite beautiful looking at times. Some low res texture work though in places can bring it back down to earth. Frame rate though is an issue, especially if you are looking for a constant 30fps. Even in the first few missions, some chugging can be seen when fighting over large vistas. This is at 1080p though, so there may be some improvement when rendering at 720p, but I haven't had a chance to try it out..
Frame rate of course is a little subjective, so it may not be a killer for everyone, and I for one would have been extremely surprised to see a silky smooth experience with such detail and draw distance, especially at this stage of the PS3's life..

Appearing to be so limited, the game is hardly worth the 60-70 euro its going to cost over here (but then again, what games are :( ), and even at the 50-55 euro you'll pay online, you'd have to be a big dragon/shooter fan to get your money's worth. Worth a rent though, whenever it shows up..

All in all, say 6/10....may be a little higher if you fall for it, and can put up with some repetitive gameplay..
