    Hey everyone,

I'm interested in making a proxy server out of my Irish computer so I can use its IP address from the US where I am right now... but I haven't a clue where to start. Is it simply a matter of using the proxy settings on the browser (US) to match my Irish computer's settings and then giving permission to my US address to access it?

Or is it more complicated? Software/VPN (I have access to Cisco VPN 5.0) etc.? Detailed help will be warmly appreciated!:)

    Thanks

Yes, it is as simple as setting up a server like Privoxy on your home computer and point to it in your web browser.

The problem is of course that anyone can do the same.

I have no experience setting up a connection using VPN but I wrote a little bit of documentation if you want to use SSH. Have a look here.

    http://doc.thewan.net/wiki/index.php/SSH

The way this works is that you make your proxy listen to 127.0.0.1 and not your external IP. SSH tunneling makes it possible to make this secure and nobody else can use your proxy.

Sorry, don't know how to do it with VPN.

Just browsing for VPN, but I have the impression that SSL Explorer will do the trick as well. This has recently been suggested to me by FatherDougalMag for a different problem.

After downloading this from SourceForge, I think it is a VPN server.

    Have a peek yourself.

If its only for sports ( day thats in it etc) , make the proxy only allow your US address, ssh is a bit much for just streaming tv. Look into vpns if you want to watch the rain on your webcam here etc : http://openvpn.se/ http://openvpn.net/ http://www.itsatechworld.com/2006/01/29/how-to-configure-openvpn/

might be a help , should be loads of guys on here that actually know about them
