Thinking of doing a rail trip around denmark, sweden, norway.

Anyone done something similar and can you see a decent mixture of places on the coasts and inland travelling by train?

I'm guessing a scanrail pass would be the best way to do it.

Gekko, travelled around Scan. for a month by rail but that was 20 years ago so not sure what the rail systems are like now (grown/shrunk etc.)

However, we were able to take in Oslo and Bergen via Voss and the spectacular line betwen them, up the coast to trondheim and on up to Bodo in the Arctic circle - swung inland then and follwed the line that basically ferries the coal and iron ore from northern Sweden to the Norwegian coast. Only saw a couple of places in Sweden before going on to Oulo in Finaland and then down to Tampere and Helsinki, finishing up with a ferry to Stockholm and then some time in southern Sweden incl. Goteborg

My main recollection of the trip was that it wasn't one for the beer lover etc. as availability was scarce and prices were high. Nowadays, these countries are still relatively expensive but the number of budget options for acommodation has grown enormously

    Enjoy !
