Eurovision Dance Contest

    Anybody else watching it?

Graham Norton is great, makes it livelier - he should host the Eurovision every year, no matter where it is. Many of the people who call out the points havent been best pleased with him though, especially Lithuania!

Somehow I ended up watching the last 50 mins on BBC. Have to say the UK commentators made muppets of themselves. Once they realised that they haven't a prayer to win, they resorted to a barrage of "anti-Ireland" remarks. EVERY single time Ireland received more points than them, we were treated to comments such as "I cannot believe Ireland are third and we are second from bottom" or "ha ha, again the Irish get some luck". And once it was obvious that Ireland were out of the running, they were only too delighted! It would be ok if they targeted other countries, but it was all Ireland-related comments.

I'm going to ring the BBC complaints on Monday for the laugh :)

Graham is irish so maybe that was why he was mentioning it, only say the voting at the end, thought it was okay by eurosong standards ie. still pretty bad

I noticed the anti-Irish attitude of the commentators too...have to say I was pretty shocked. It was funny at the start, but Jesus, they went a bit over the top. They genuinely sounded bitter and resentful. For Christ's sake lads, it's only a silly dancing competition!! :D

I emailed their complaints section for a laugh. I didn't even see the dancing :p - I was flicking around and stopped when I heard a snide comment and they kept going. You'd think the BBC would be a bit more profressional than that. I pointed out in my complaint that it was only Ireland that got the snide remarks even though there were plenty of other countries ahead of the UK!!!

I watched it on RTE i love the commentary of Marty Whelan. I taught the performance of the Irish Act was absolutely great. Ireland, Ukraine seemed to be the only countries that did dances in the freestyle section that reflected its culture, country and heritage.

The UK act did a James Bond teamed performance how does that reflect its nation, people etc. and don’t get me started on the interval act Enrique Iglesias what was that all about

"Unprofessional" will be the word I will be stressing throughout my complaint. They sounded like a bunch of jealous 6-year-olds. I know it's only a light hearted show, but, being the semi-popularity contest that it was, it shows the UKs popularity for what it's worth.

Their dance was a laugh really.

I only saw a few minutes of it towards the end, when they were giving out the votes & stuff...

Loved when some country mucked up giving out the votes, i laughed....

eolhc: it wasn't Graham Norton making the comments, it was the BBC commentators Len Goodman and Bruno Something.

It was sickening to be honest. I thought there was nothing on earth that could make me switch back to Marty Whelan's commentary, but this did the trick. Regarding the Irish performances - well done, the traditional part was a bit too conservative I think, but just about every country in Europe agreed that they were one of the best.

To add to the comments about the BBC "commentators" they called the Ireland performance "stiff and starchy, thats what we've come to expect from the Irish with their stiff and starchy Irish dancing....." Did they see the same performance as the rest of us because to me it was the furthest thing from a "stiff and starchy" dance !

I thought the Irish act was fantastic. The UK commentary though was a bit anti Irish alright during the second dance. They claimed they "needed more performance experience", according to their profiles both have been lead in Riverdance and have several years professional experience behind them. Well deserved third spot.

from the bbc I immediately e-mailed them and received an automatic reply saying I would not get a reply unless I was an accredited journalist.
It was blatant anti-Irishness as they kept on insulting the irish act almost everytime we received points.
Did they not realise it was their show and the UK came second last we came third also the Irish gave them 7 points. The good British public gave Ireland 8 points.
I think the BBC need to have a word with their commentators and kick them off future shows.
But hey there they were again on another BBC show tonight. Switched off instantly.

    Regards

    good boy

    Best comment ever:
*when it was about 2/3rds through the voting Graham Norton said:*
"Anyone can still catch up with the leaders. Well except for Switzerland" and then pulled a face. That mans a genius

    I know Mick! He's so class :)

I thought the irish dancing was only OK but was delighted they came third! I also thought all dances were too short! I think they all should have done one dance each and it should have lasted for three minutes. Finland deserved their win! I also watched it on RTE and enjoyed Marty's comments!

So has anyone rang to complain about Graham ( I am Irish but I wish I was English) Nortons Anti-Swiss attitude? Or was that just funny then?

Different situation. The Swiss had no points. The english commentators where coming across as sore losers by insulting the Irish dancers everytime they scored points.
