    Hi,

Trying to decided which laptop to buy have been reading on the site people saying that the DELL Vostro is good. Was thinking of getting the ASUS F3JP

    http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Asus_F3Jp_Laptop_F3JP-AP104C/version-1.asp
    but not sure.

    Have about 1000euro to spend

The ASUS is about 974euro with delivery and the spec is

    Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 - 1.66GHz (x2), 667MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache
    RAM: 2048MB DDR2
    Hard Drive: 160GB
    Screen: 15.4" Widescreen TFT
    Optical Drive: DVD±RW Super Multi
Graphics: ATI Radeon X1700 supporting 512MB HyperMemory
Wireless LAN: 802.11a/b/g - Call for advice on Wireless Networking
    Warranty: 2 Year Warranty
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
    Built-In 1.3 MegaPixel Camera
    widescreen resolution of 1,280 x 800

the dell of the simular spec is 942euro

    BASE Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7300 Processor (2.0GHz,800MHz,4MB L2 cache) edit
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows Vista® Business - English edit
HARDWARE SUPPORT Base Warranty - 1 Year Business Hardware Support edit
    LCD 15.4" Wide Screen WXGA (1280 x 800) Display with TrueLife™ edit
INTEGRATED WEBCAM Matte Jet Black with 2.0 mega pixel camera edit
    MEMORY 2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM (2x1024) edit
HARD DRIVE 160GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive edit
    GRAPHICS CARD 256MB nVidia® GeForce® 8600M GT edit
OPTICAL DRIVE Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Drive edit
PRIMARY BATTERY Primary 6-cell Lithium-Ion Battery (56 WHr)

My problem is that I would prefer that ASUS because I think the build quality would be better.
But with the Dell the spec is slightly better and I could increase the screen res to 1440 x 900 for the price difference also I could change to the 17" screen for the same price

I dont play alot of games but may be using the laptop for some AutoCAD and simular applications

    Any advice or opions welcome.:

I like the Asus quality and also having a different laptop than others too ;)
The dell surely is better specc'ed and would perform a tad bit better.
But even a 1.66GHz C2D is a lot of power to carry around.

Anyways long story short, if you like something different grab the Asus,
if you want better value for money go for the Dell.
Its the same with cars and mobile phones etc. ... if you get my drift
    :)

The reason I'm not so keen on the dell is that I had 2 dell previously and after about a year they started giving trouble ( mouse pad stoped working, screen going dark, etc) nothing fatal but annoying.
The one I have currently is a dell , its about 2 years old and for about the last 3 months if i move the laptop when its on, the mouse pointer starts going crazy and you cant do anything and currently my screen dies 2mins after startup so I have to use an external monitor, so that why I'm looking something new.
I hear HP is not reliable
Toshiba are supposed to be good but 2 of my friend had toshibas and had trouble like graphics cards failing, freezing.
Lenovo are supposed to be built well but a bit more expensive than the ASUS
But all the forums seem to recommend Dell so Im thinking, have I just had bad luck ?
Pretty much what Im looking is something that will last for about 2 years hassle free.
So any advice would be apreciated
