My Dell 6400 won't boot up in any mode just keeps going to the blue screen of death. However on this screen it meantions a problem with the file "volsnap.sys".

It also mentions that I should, in the bios, disable caching and shadowing feature which I think is related to the above file. Only thing is the Dell Bios is so retardted you caan't change a single thing.

The machine is running XP Home the only OS disk I have is XP media center but I can get into the recovery console using this disk. I;ve looked on line and it seems maybe if i replace this volsnap.sys file i'll be back in biz.

The question is how the hell do I do that, can anyone tell me the steps and commands i need to delete the old file and replace it with the new one.

According to the web its address is C:\Windows\System32\drivers

    Any help would be appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Cheers

My computer won't boot up and always runs the system repair. The BSOD appears with the file volsnap.sys and stop code: 0x00000050 (0xA0B764D, 0x00000000, 0x8874E885, 0x00000002)
    volsnap.sys-address 8874e885 base at 8871E000, Datestamp 47918f92

PLEASE HELP!!! I don't have a recovery disk either because Windows was loaded already when I bought this computer years ago from CompUSA which is out of business.

If you got no install dics originally? it means that the machine would more than likely have a recovery partition on the hard drive which can be used to restore the system to the state in which it was shipped to you.
