I was recently messing around with a Windows XP tweak for speeding it up.
    It was this
Tweak 1- Optimizing Graphics for Performance

1)Go to your desktop. Right click My Computer and select properties. (The My Computer icon should not be a shortcut) If it is a shortcut go to start and right click on My Computer and select properties.

2)Click on the advanced tab. Then click on the settings button

3)Now click on the check box which says Adjust for best performance.

This will remove effects such as fade in and and shadows which most users do not even notice.

Now it's using the old visual style which I really dislike, when I tried to change it back I get this error message

    "error in uxtheme.dll
    missing entry:#64"

Alas a system restore doesn't seem to be working either. I was familiar with this tweak so didn't expect any problems, would love my old setting if possible. I also tried the steps in this link here and this link here

Does anybody have any idea how I can fix this problem? It's so annoying.

Uninstall your Graphics drivers then reboot into safe mode and run "SFC /SCANNOW"

Or do a search for uxtheme without the extention. The software you installed that modified it so you can use custom themes might have made a backup.

As Joe said, SFC should sort it too.
