Moving House.....

    Well Lads,
I'm back in college next week and it is looking likely that me and two of my poker playing buddies will be getting a house in "the place of the piano that never moves."
Anyway, all 3 of us are going to be playing some serious online poker and giving it a real shot of climbing through the levels. We are probably going to dedicate the dining room as a poker room and stick our laptops with many other comfort, non-tilt inducing, items in. Beanbags, Good stereo etc

    So my questions are:

Datamining? How? What programmes? Where and how much?

Pokertracker? Will we be better off getting a copy for each laptop or one copy for a specifed laptop and keep all the data and HH's on an external hard disk?

Connections? What are the best? Will a second connection be advisable or completely unavoidable and neccessary? What Broadband would you reccommend for value and speed(remember we are students)?

Wireless or Network Cable? Or does this matter? I am pretty sire cable is more reliable but thought Id ask for confirmation?

Thanks lads, and of course, we shall be playing some live cash and STT's and no boardie will ever be turned away from our door, or refused a drunken haven......ever.

Unless its Mr.Plough or Van Dice.... they're both ****;)

    Hi Theresa,
I recommend network cable over wireless if possible, nice to have a wireless router in the house too because occasionally you will end up playing from your bed. I don't see why you would try to share a copy of PT, it's probably technically feasible but silly and it is very cheap for what you get. I never had a backup internet connection, it makes some sense if you play a lot of tournies but unless you can make it work so you change over connections very smoothly if one fails (ie you are back for the same hand) I wouldn't bother for cash games.

PT obv essential, sharing would be silly imo, it's not that expensive. Get PAHUD, and spend the time in customizing your display and pop-up stats. Well worth it. Sounds a bit gay but have a proper set-up when you play, ie have a clear area, 1 hr playing with 100% concentration is better than 3 hrs including tv, newspaper, forums, msn, e mail, bbc sport etc etc etc.
Spend a bit of time analysing hands, how to improve your own game, and your regular opponents' games/tendencies. Talk to people who play well, ask, watch some big online winners.
I don't know anything about computers or connections.

And finally don't **** around with college (first time I've ever tried to take moral high ground/sensible position on anything!!)
Unless its Mr.Plough or Van Dice.... they're both ****;)

    Oh yeah, HU4ROLLZ!!

Obviously this poker malarky is all subject to good amount of study and a fair social life.

agree with what he said, as usual.

also, maybe its just me, but i wouldn't be able to play online in a room where 2 other lads are doing the same. there'd be too much "man what is he doing", "zomg 2 outered" etc etc.

as for the wanker comment i shall drop in and steal an eyebrow:cool:

note: 4th year = -ev, will be playing less than 1k hands a week. boo urns
