Had a look at the provisional lecture timetable for first year arts and I'm not understanding it, where can I find out what exactly the different codes are?

Ok, the first letter / two letters stand for the subject, ie MT is Maths. The three numbers 1xx stand for the course, if you look in the relevant department site there should be a list of courses.

Tutorials generally don't start til the second/third week of the semester and will be announced in your lectures when to sign up and what times are available.
