This is a hand from the €100 FO at Luke's.

Blinds have just increased to 200/400 with a 25 ante. 13 players left. 6 on my table.
UTG - has been playing tight, has about 8500 chips, raises to 1600.
Mid position player- chip leader, has as many chips as the rest of the table put together - calls.
Button, solid player, roughly 10,000 chips - calls.
    SB-folds.
I'm on the BB, short stack at the table, roughly 7,500 chips. I look down at 6-9o.

Its 1200 more to call. Whats my move?

fold?. utg has only 8500 and is still comfortable opening for 4 bbs, and hes tight. if you shove he's looking you up.

    um. fold?

The total pot is 5500. Is there an argument that your nearly getting 5 to 1 and if you hit with your muck you will get paid?

If you miss you still have 6k chips and its ninja poker time?

    But theyre not suited

calling here would be atrocious. an argument could def be made for shoving if we had a good image and UTG was loose, and the callers behind wont call with KQ or be likely to have a slowplayed monster

    just fold.

yep snap-fold, especially given reads. Calling is never an option here

As valor said, if utg was a raising a lot i would shove here often

would be reasonable if he was loose as mentioned above. hes not though so pushing sucks aswell

Grand, I was sitting at this tabel but am neither the hero or villian. We discussed it for a good while after, so I wanted to illicit as thorough response as possible.

The consensus seems to be that a call with 96o is the Grand Cru Apllelation Reserve of Donkey play.

This is the reason I posted the hand.
I think your discussion afterwards was totally results based. I wanted to get an impartial view from others on how they read the situation. I had gone 24h without sleep and still saw it for what it was.

I was not the guy in the BB with 6-9o. I was the UTG raiser. My hand was KK.
John the taxi driver was the monster stack and Sumoward was the button.
I think the BBs decision to call was influenced by others saying 'shure dares to much value now'.
I don't think he was paying any attention to the table dynamics at all.
As the hand played out, the BB did call. The flop came 7d8d3h and he insta pushed, I insta called, everyone else folded. The 10d hit on the turn and that was it.
BTW, John showed AK and Sumoward said he'd KQ afterwards.

He got lucky, I kicked myself for going broke on one pair and then took MickL's money in a lively game of 7-stud afterwards.

There's 7 card stud there? Limit/PL and what blinds?

We got a round of each going. 7-stud and omaha.

The 7-stud was half pot, triple bet. Low card brings in for €1.
If someone wants to raise the max would be €3 (triple the last bet). If someone wants to bet a street the maximum bet is half the pot.
    Very good game.

Luke is looking to get regular games like these going, so if anyone wants stud, we can arrange a night that everyone knows there will be a dedicated stud game on that night.

I'll start a new thread on it later with some other games on given nights.

    bad beat

In this situation, I would want the BB to play this way against me every time.

This is what you want to hear, and you played this correctly, have a lolly.

    Bad Beat, move on.

Its not a question of it being a bad beat. After the hand was played, the BB tried to justify his call by mentioning 'too much value to fold' and others agreed with him. I didn't push it with him, I just moved on. His opinion and the others that agreed were clearly results based thinking, that was my point all along. Regardless of the price you are getting, there is no value in calling with 6-9o OOP for 1/5 of your stack.

In this situation, you should nod your head and agree with them. Don't tap the glass on the fish tank, you'll scare them.
