    Hi,

I was in Langkawi in May 2005 for a week. Stayed in the Berjaya resort for the whole week. We really enjoyed ourselves and found the whole week pretty inexpensive for what we got. All the rooms were set in the rainforest and were really comfortable. We didn't go at a great time of year so the weather wasn't great, but it only rained once or twice. We hired a car for a day and drove around the island. I found there wasn't a huge amount to see but there is some good shopping on the island. Our resort was a lot more expensive to eat at than in other areas, but the staff were unbelievably friendly and went out of their way to help you. There was about 5 restaurants, a gym, three bars in the resort so we were well catered for. For a week, it was perfect for us. Flights seem to be much cheaper to book once you land in Malaysia, so you could save some cash by fitting Langkawi in as one of a few stops in your honeymoon.

Hope this helps, but please ask me for particulars.

Singapore is one of the best shopping destinations in the world but there's not a lot else to it. "South East Asia Lite" would be a good description. It's really orderly and clean and I find it's a nice place to chill out for a couple of days after a long flight. And the food's great.

Langkawi is a popular honeymoon destination and has lots of resorts as dexterfletcher described. I didn't like it but I was travelling on my own and it's a bit too touristy for my taste. It also seems to attract a lot of Irish so if you want to spend your evenings discussing property prices and the cost of creches go for it!

Singapore is an ok spot, lots of good shopping and a very modern city, some good nightlife too, although alcohol is very expensive by Asian standards or even Irish standards for that matter.. I would maybe look to spending 3/4 nights here and then fly to a malaysian island called Tioman. Its on the east coast just out from Mersing. Its an idyllic setting and the Malay people are so friendly... I reckon Langkawi might be a bit too touristy... There are beaches around the island where you have the whole place almost to yourself, which could be nice on honeymoon... Vietnam might be another destination worth looking into.. Enjoy!!

Hi, I was in langkawi a few years back with my fiance and stayed in the berjaya resort too... really liked it... had a really nice wooden hut (wooden floors throughout....nice bed... etc) in the middle of tropical forest...staff really nice and friendly...

ate a lot in the oriental village, about a 5 min walk from the resort... looks like a bit of a canteen but food was amazing and really really cheap... ...

JoJo was the name of one of the stall/restaurants... and it was excellent...
full fresh sea bass with trimmings for about 3 euro... better than any restuarant in dublin....

would recommend for a coupley holiday...can be a bitn quiet at night if you are looking for a mad one !

Having spent last summer travelling this area, I would also reccomend tioman as mentioned above. the other side to Tioman (Juara) is beautiful and quiet and relaxed. we spent a few days there, playing volleyball in the evening chatting with the few other tourists and locals. I would say 4or 5 days in Juara would be a good stop for your trip.

Singapore was a bit strange coming from Ireland, incrediably law abiding. Wont cross road until green man...EVEN if no cars!!

Shopping was amazing there, but night life was ok and as mentioned above is quite expensive for asia.
