As a bit of Friday afternoon fun if you were getting a new car built from scratch what countries would you have do what?

    I will start.

    Styling : Italians
    Handling: French
    Ride: French
    Interior : Germans
    Build it : Japanese
    Engine : Italians / Japanese / maybe Germans ( tough one )

Can't think of anything else at the moment but feel free to add if necessary.

Lexus build good cars. Well engineered, and well screwed together.

Doesn't mean they are the best cars mind you.

I assume that was in jest?

p.s. Come to think of it they made some very fine handling cars - 205 GTI springs to mind. Push one of those too far however and you'll end up in a tree.

I assume that was in jest?

Nope, there was a time when if you wanted a fine handling hot hatch it had to be French - 205,106,309 gti's, Clio 16v, R5 etc outhandled their perspective
German or Italian rivals, and the Japs came no where close.

Currently the Clio 197 and Megane R26 are widely regarded as among then best handling hot hatches about.

I get to run about in a 1.0 1994 106 XN some times and I am always amazed how a car with such a good ride is able to thrill through the bends. ( Bet it could keep up with a Glanza easy through the twisties ;) )

Oh an and before anyone else slags off the French - where is it again the Veyron is built ??
Push one of those too far however and you'll end up in a tree.

    Don't they all ? :)

Jumpy - so thats it ??, all Japanese because you've owned two Japanese cars and none broke down ?
how does that effect the style or handling ?

Did anyone ever see the Datsun Cherry with Alfa running gear? It did exist, but surely the worst of both worlds!

Indeed, instead of merging obvious Italian styling & driving characteristics with Japanese reliability & build quality they did it the other way round. Total disaster!

LOL, yeah designed by the Japs and built by the Italians during the 'Recycling old Tank metal' era...

I am sure the Italian workers were horrified and insulted they were asked to perform such a task.

The Mazda 323 94' was a pig to drive. It was like driving a marshmallow.
The FTO is a sweeeeet handler.

Styling : Italians seem to be the best
Handling: English (Caterham, Lotus, Ariel, Ultima) otherwise Porsche
    Ride: French
Interior : Germans (though a little bland)
    Build it : Japanese
Engine : BMW (I don't like BMW, but they make the best engines, Honda are close)

Package: Porshe, good at everything, poor at nothing

Well looking at the fun to cost ratio which i think is the most important thing in a car the japanese would win hands down.

Push any car too far any you'll end up in something. By definition, "too much" means youve lost it.

I think it a bit pointless using prestige brands, even Lotus arnt really mass produced. But the Veyron especially seeing as only a handfull are made ( i assume handbuilt. And the cost  ) so bits shouldnt really be fallign off.

now don't slag me off, but i think when it comes to everyday production cars......the french (esp citroen + peugeot) make the best.

Ok maybe not as reliable as the japs..but great "driver" cars, stylish inside and out and a joy to drive.. in my experience anyway:)

Thank you for keeping me awake at work ;-)

Styling : Italian (Quattroporte - stylish, yet functional)
Handling: Italian (Gallardo - only driven it once, but OMG)
Ride: USA (Escalade/Yukon/Denali/Suburban/Tahoe (all the same chasis) - Just ridiculously large vehicles that don't feel ANY bumps at all)
Interior : German (6 Series - I don't really like BMW, but I gotta give it to them)
Build it : USA (Buick - OK hang on! Where I am at, it has the highest dependability rating...FREAKING wierd I know. Ratings: 1 Buick, 1 Lexus, 3 Cadillac, 4 Mercury (Ford), 5 Honda - Read the article under the link)
    Engine : USA (5.7 Litre Hemi Multi-Displacement V8 - Enough said)

Yeah - you can tell where I'm from (considering the origin of half my choices), but check the sources and see if you agree.
