    ...to a tournament.

Firstly, there's a lot stuff which we are undecided on - see the dunno's below. So, quite simply what do you want? Throw in your two cents as to what you want and me, Tom and Luke will come to some reasonable decision. Go for it!

    1. Who is running the event (organisation, society etc.)
    Boards and CHL

    2. The purpose of the event (charity, commercial etc.)
    Social, sh1ts n giggles

    3. Date and Location of event
Dunno date (but not to clash with our monthly big game - 15th sept), but Cool Hand Luke's, 81 Merrion Sq is the venue. When do you want it?

    4. Registration and Start time of event.
    Dunno, preferred start time 7/7:30

    5. Any prerequisites (member of club, society etc)
Any tenuous link with Boards will do.

    6. How can tickets be purchased & is there a maximum number (in advance, at the door etc.)
Reg from about an hour before, we are making 8 tables available on a single floor.

    7. Type of Tournament (Hold'em/Omaha etc Freezeout/Rebuy etc.)
    Likely NLHE.

    8. Cost of entry and any subsequent rebuys/top-ups etc.
Dunno, what do you folks want?

    9. Cost of registration
    Standard 10%

    10. % of entry fee/rebuys/top-up going into Prize fund
    100%

    11. Any guarenteed prize pool.
    No

    12. If applicable, Number of re-buys allowed and over what time frame/blind levels.
    Dunno

    13. Starting Chips
    Dunno, should be plenty.

    14. Rebuy and Top-up chip amounts.
    Dunno, but good.

    15. Blind levels
Standard long blinds (with 75/150 and 150/300), no antes.

    16. Blind timeframes
    Dunno, but good.

    17. Places being paid and if any prizes are other than cash (free entry to other tournie, merchandice etc)
    All cash.

    18. Are there going to be dealers - and their level of skill
CHL dealers will be available. Most of us are tip-top, one or two are less experienced.

    19. Will there be a documented list of rules
Dunno. We'll clarify in due course.

    20. Is there a tournament director
Yes, one or more of me, Luke and maybe Tom

    21. How are disputes handled - who has final say.
    TD

There will be food too at break. I think you might be able to do a byob job, will confirm that.

    Thats a lot of dunnos.

True, but we want your suggestions first.

    I'll start the bidding at 50+5e with 1 rebuy/top-up at 50e, Monday 17th Sept, 7pm. 3x 25 mins levels til break after 3rd level, 20 mins after. 2k starting, 3k rebuy/topup.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,860 ✭✭✭ditpoker

rebuys are no fun, the poker starts once it hits freezeout anyway. keep it freezeout and cheap enough to include the lower bankroll players on boards but high enough to get the higher level players.

    i'd suggest...

€50+5scalp+5reg (affordable, and meaningless scalp for people to gambool with as play goes on!!)... basically €60 max spend.

25 min clock all the way through with possible final table being extended.
    6000 starting stack.

and option to play sit and goes for players who bust early, stakes to be decided by the players, keep everyone interested.

    have a trophy for funsies!

ban oscar. he's basically a dead stack anyway...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,234 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

    personnally i'd rather a 50e-100e freezeout, with a larger stack, date/time ok
levels slighlty short, but would we get better?

edit: Like the scaps idea from jeff, and 50e does suit small pockets better

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,700 ✭✭✭tricky D

Trophy sounds good. Sit n Go's, of course. I prefer freezeout, but fat chance of me playing. Only 4 cents so far, .....more.

I'd take Jeff's idea but add a little onto the buyin if its a freezout, a little onto the clock and a little onto the starting stack...

1 rebuy or 1 topup isnt the worst idea in the world, a slong as its not multiple rebuys....

ohhh and name badges and prop bets should be compulsory :p

100/150 freezeout with 8k starting stack 25 min blinds with all levels should get a lot of interest.

Or preferably why not run a 300 freezeout sat to the dublin ept with a max of 90 seats generating 3 packages, just a thought as i reckon a lot on here would like to try their hand at a live sat into this.

Lets not take away from this idea yet Fran.....your idea should be for a different thread!

Yup, this is with more emphasis on the 'social'.

    200 yoyos + 20 buyin. 10k chips. 30 min levels please.

i think anything over 100 is going to discourage a lot of people (and encourage others no doubt), but i like DITPOKER' s suggestion of 50+5+5

I like jeff proposal too, except can you not have it on a weekend? I'm out here in Galway and I travel back every weekend!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,615 ✭✭✭Mr.Plough

what jeff said if you want a social game.

  • Subscribers Posts: 32,864 ✭✭✭✭5starpool

I think something around the €100 mark, with a 25 min clock and 6k starting should fit a few bills.

    1. decent prizepool
    2. decent structure
    3. decent stack
    4. Over at a decent time

I think this is a compromise between the million chip/million hour clock brigade, and the get it over early brigade (admittedly not many of those here). Monday isn't the best night for me though, but at least there are no champions league games on Mondays.

Any freezeout priced up to €100 with decent strating stack and blind levels and decent starting time (ie no later than 8) on a Tues,Wed,Thurs would suit this culchie (not worried about CL-qualifying group is a piece of cake:D )

There is already one of these planned for the 23rd to coincide with the Heads Up final. No specific event has been planned but we were thinking theres already the 30FO for the smaller bankrolls and then we set up either a small HU tournament before that or just get a cash game going with beer and food before hand - see the HU final thread.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,563 ✭✭✭sikes

I think you should have a turbo double shootout. Blinds go up every 5 hands, 2k starting stack.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,234 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

So is it agreed on freezeout?

I think scalps should be dumped for prop bets.

Name badges are always help here. For ****s n giggles

If the games is designed to be social, then 50e is plenty. 100e is max and might start to discourage players.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,535 ✭✭✭30something

    €75 Freezeout (incl €10 for reg). 7500 Stack, 25 min blinds, all levels - Sunday 30th September - start 7.00pm (Monday's a bank holiday).

    Bah, probably clashes with something

If the buyin is too low it will equally discourage people from entering.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,615 ✭✭✭Mr.Plough

maybe just set up a poll...

    The opposite is also true.

A poll is probably the best option to see what buy in the masses prefere

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,027 ✭✭✭✭Ace2007

poll is best idea - i'd prefer either wednesdays or sat/sunday since theres no good FO's on those days... buy in - between €75 and €100 i reckon... with 6K+ stack....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,895 ✭✭✭✭phantom_lord

    100+10, 8k, half hour blinds?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,317 ✭✭✭The Clamper

most people can afford a 100 fo
    personally i dont like multi-rebuys
1 rebuy in a 50+50 is plenty, but make the rebuy almost compulsory by giving plenty of chips amd many extra for the top up if people dont get a chance to rebuy during the tourney
more or less any night is good for me, tho i usually dont play on sundays, not that i am a reigeous nut or anything, but i am generally a lazy person and i like to laze on sundays much more than other days

how about organising a good ol freebie like our dear friend used to run, Mr Rogers
free entry with rebuys of a tenner for 60 mins
some of them games used to have serious prize pools

also that 20 multi rebuy game that used to be in the ols Merrion could certainly generate ridiculous amopunts of rebuys and pushed some friday games to exhorbitant pools of cash with particular people rebuying 10-15 times

why not have a student night too, i will put up an entry into the IPO for 1st place as an added bonus, charge a fiver in with rebuy and top up each at a fiver, so the max spend is 20+reg if you want a reg
after all the poor students havent a bob
remember, these students are your future customers once they graduate and have lots of dosh, get them in now and give them value and they will be yours for life
since students are usually hard at studying during the week, you could have that on a saturday afternoon when they are off

i'm serious about the added value offer of a free entry to the IPO as a once off bonus out of my own pocket if thats any help

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,012 ✭✭✭kincsem

i wouldn't care if it was 10, 20, 50, 100 or 200 buy-in. But lets try to keep it affordable for a large number. I think Mr Bradleys ;) suggestion of a 50+50 is good. I like an equal amount of chips for each cash amount. This gives the players with a smaller bankroll a chance to win a big prize for half price.

I haven't been around to Luke's since the opening and am looking for a freezeout (or one rebuy) game there with a decent amount of runners.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,881 ✭✭✭bohsman

Sean, Thursdays 100FO should get a great turnout, 35 last week, 27 this week despite the forces of darkness running a 270, would say itll be well over 50 this week.

Derek, In the first line you say you hate multi rebuys then you suggest 3 different multi rebuy tournaments??? We'll be happy to take you up on the offer of a free ticket for one of the student friendly 30FOs we run on a Sunday at 5 though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,234 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

If this is a one of game then it should be different,
If we are suggesting a 100FO, with 7.5k stack and 30 min blinds. We might as well drop the organising and show up for thursdays game.

It would be nice to have a one of game that is unreasonable to run everyweek. But that CHLs are williong to run for boards this one time.

Has everyone forgot Jeffs idea!? Or just no one cares? I think thats the best option, thought it was meant to be for fun. €100 FO aint going to make it a very social event........eh!?

My suggestion would be a €15 rebuy like they had back in the Merrion, that was the best tournament around if anyone remembers it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,502 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Grrrr. "Social"; "Fun". This will be a poker tournament. I will want to win if I play. If we want a social event lets go to the pub ffs.

I like Phantom Lord's idea as a decent compromise.

I like Shanes idea too, but it will suit the nits more than anyone else. It will only lead to very tight play.

As Richie says its a social occasion.

Why not have a €30 buy-in with €10 rebuys capped at a max spend of €100 for an hour and a half.
Say a starting stack of 2500 chips and rebuys of 2000.
This should add lots of value to the prize pool.
That should loosen everyone up and put a lot of chips in play. Come the later stages of the tournament there will be big enough stacks for all the nits and the earlier stages will suit everyone who likes a gamboool.
I think it would be a sound compromise for everyone.

    Just a suggestion.:)

Sorry Paul - I'm afraid you are confusing "suit the nits" with playabillity. You can play a lag style in a deep structure. Obviously everyone needs to play more hands in a crapshoot.

and thats why sometimes people play T8suited!!

    anywho...

if its too like an existing sturcture we might as well just play that game. how about take the 50+5scalp+5reg option i suggested, 25 clock, 6k or 7k chips. someone suggested sunday 30th as monday is a bank holiday. this makes sense.

as a way of adding to the atmosphere and a compromise for those who really wanna GAMBOOOOOOOL and wanna spend some more €€€€ how about the following:

50+5reg. everyone must buy a €5 scalp chip. so everyone must spend 60. if you get knocked out you must give said €5 scalp chip to you conqueror (thats not an easy word to spell), however, if you wanna spend €80, you can buy an addition 4 €5 scalp chips, and you can bet on the colour of the flop, whether lloyd will win the next hand, last longest bets, "i'll give you a €5 scalp if you call him!!!", etc etc etc... should make it more interesting and a bit more fun. so you can spend 60, win some scalps to gambool with, or buy extra gambool chips, or even spend €250 on scalp chips and bet on EVERYTHING!!!!

Can't a freeze out be Social?

€50-€75 euro surely keeps it in the social bracket.

The best poker occasion in Dublin in the last few weeks have been a number of different freezeouts.

Good playability rather than buy-in madness lends to more fun IMHO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,234 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

I fail to see how the buy-in affects playability? stack and levels can be changed independant of buy-in.

The 100 FO sounds good, but that game is already on in CHLs on a thurs,
the 50+5+5 game is a little more social, isn't that what the game is being organised for. If not just scrap the idea and we'll see you all on thurs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,039 ✭✭✭Theresalwaysone

by having a Boards Tourney, you are encouraging Boardies to play and be social. regardless whether it is the same or similar to other tourneys on in Lukes.
