Hi all,im considering a console for my 5 year old boy.
Im thinking going with the wii since hes only 5.
I was also thinking going with the nintendo DS or PSP.

Hes only 5 but very quick to learn,, he loves playing the interactive games on Cbeebies website which got me thinking of a console.

Well the PSP is really for a serious gamer who would watch videos, listen to music, look at photos and go on the internet. Since he's only 5 I'd pick a Wii or a DS as they are really just for fun and for all ages. But 'you'd' love the PSP! :D

yup i second wii and ds the ds mainly as there are lots of childrens games for it in comparision to the psp and the ds is cheaper:D

I'd get him the DS. Better selection of games than any of the other consoles and they are more kid friendly.

I'd go for the Wii - DS will be pretty much out of date in a year - plus it's more interactive he can play with other members of the family besides having his head stuck in the DS all day - more fun too!

I think there's a lot of interesting kids games for the DS and it's not too difficult to master... my 3 year old cousin loves her big sisters, and actually does ok at some of the games! Also it's not too expensive, and the games are cheaper than for the wii I think.

I don't think it will, and anyway, he's five, he's not going to care if he's not getting the latest games. I'd definitely get him a ds over a psp or wii.

Not to go off topic but reply to eamon234, the DS technology wise is outdated yes but as a handheld it will be around for years to come due to it major popularity worldwide, looks at the ps2 and gba sure

If getting a Wii, look into getting a protective screen for the TV if he likes bowling:D

Surely not? Reading your kids a book is an excellent idea.

(I think 5 is the age I started gaming. I say get him a NES. I seemed very happy with it.)

    DS.

There's a Wii in our house which is on maybe once or twice a week at most. The DS consoles are always going. My sisters use them for MSN and everything.

Yeah I'd definitely agree with the DS, it's very kid orientated. My little brother and I have on each and they're great fun

Yep DS all the way my two daughters use them and they are 4 & 7, they can play Mario Kart together, I'd also pick up an R4 card as well for it.

    Snake ;)

I'd say maybe a Wii - if he's 5 years old it's alot easier to lose or break a DS than a Wii

My son is just under 3 and he can play Mario 64 on the DS lite. I just remove the pen from the game and he uses his finger. Keeps him amused for ages.
