I would swap South Korea for Japan. A lot more to see and do and (imo) infinitely times more interesting and unique that SK, plus its not nearly as expensive as people seem to think.

If you can stretch I'd also recommend Bhutan. You should be able to get flights from Bangkok, really amazing place and not on the backpacker thronged route like some of other places you mention.

Cost is totally dependant on your required level of comfort and transport etc....

    S-Korea - I haven't been so I don't really know but I do fancy visiting Korea.
Cambodia - Don't miss out on Cambodia, I loved it. I would particularly recommend Srim Reap for the temples, Phnom Penh as an experience and I really like Sihnoukville for a sandy week.

    Laos - Haven't been.
Malaysia - Haven't been but would love to go up the petronas towers.
Sinapore - Love Singapore, don't miss out on this place.
Vietnam - Didn't like it, Dump of a place and generally rude people. Just my opinion.
Thiland - I could spend the whole 6-8 weeks in Thailand, Chang Mai, Bangkok, The islands!!!

I too would go to Japan if I were you. I've only been to Tokyo but what a place.

laos and cambodia are truly amazing but unfortunatley have become a major destination for backpackers in S.E. Asia......its really easy to organise from bangkok....visas etc.....and very good transport links. North laos is great and not so many tourists up there and theres some nice trekking there too. And vengvien and vientienne are great towns....very chilled out.
If you go to malaysia its very easy to get a boat over to sumatra ( part of indonesia). You can get a visa in penang in malaysia. Again not so many tourists in Sumatra as in other parts of indonesia.
Myamar is another country well worth a visit.... and its alot easier to get into now compared to 5 years ago. But still alot of travel restrictions on where you go( mostly up north ). There may be a border crossing into china thats open for foreigners now. I met some people who had crossed the border from china into myamar.....its worth checking out.
Travel in south east asia is the easiest ive ever experienced......but the best way to travel is to go as local as possable .
Its all cheap.....i think my budget last time was about 7 dollars (US) a day....but going local style will always be cheaper............have a wonderful time whatever way you travel and whereever you go...and spend longer if you can!!!!!!!
