Module capacity and allocation issues

On Monday like most students i registered the modules i intended to choose for my joint majors in Arts for my final year without bother

then after doing alot of hard thinking and weighing up pros and cons i decided that one of the modules for my joint major was unsuitable due to various factors and wanted to drop it in favour of another module

the problem is the module now i want to take is no longer available. i've just been informed that for a number of modules in this final year subject, capacity is strictly limited and are allocated on a ''first come first served'' basis and now most of these modules are now full. i'm facing the prospect of being forced to do another final year module that i've no interest in and a module that i will probably do crap in

it has been well publicised that elective places are strictly limited but i had no idea that modules for your actual degree subject were in effect subject to the same process.

there was no indication whatsoever in the respective module outlines on the UCD website that places were limited and would be allocated as first come first served..... the lack of clarity is what annoys me as if I had known this was the case i would have been more careful with what modules i had selected knowing that i probably would not have the opportunity to switch modules. also, i'm sure there are many students who could not register early for various factors beyond their control who have now missed out on modules they wanted to do for their degree. another fine UCD mess.

is anyone else experiencing anything similar? i really dont know what to do here or even if there is anything that can be done

I'm in finaly year too and we were allowed to choose on Tues morning...

I started picking modules but at half 9 in the morning one of them was already full up so i had to pick another one.

    tough shít i guess.

Last year you had to be in at a quarter to nine on the first day to get into one module and it was literally first come first served the lecturer locked the door and we could hear people outside trying to get in ,it was ridiculous. What next fights to the death?
