Firstly congrats on the job offer, dunno bout the company involved but I have worked in a similar capacity in the past doing MMDS and cabling installs and I found the undue pressure caused was forcing me to cut corners and in all I wasn't too happy as I take pride in my work.

I don't know the background you have come from i.e. if your a sky installer privately before being offered the job...but the one thing you can take from the job is learning invaluable experience in what is an overally enjoyable job..

I now work for a small company where the goal is doing a good tidy job at a reasonable rate..We aim to gain return business in the future and I am allowed to do private work in my own time which helps boast my wages..

I wish you every success and think you should give it a shout..you may love it and may achieve the goals with relative success...only one way to find out...

Its good for getting experience but if I were you i'd try generating my own work ASAP. What county are you located in?

Also, if working for yourself, you can broaden your scope, like installing systems for the foreign nationals, like Polsat, etc. Maybe some motorised systems also.

There can be more to satellite installs than just Sky.

They used to be offering about €30 - €35 per Sky install (maybe €40-€45 these days?). And you supplied your own cable.

That was a large Irish sat company contracted by Sky themselves (and sub-contracting out to smaller, local agents @ the €30-€35) afair.

The pressure was on yourself then, as the more you did, the more you earned. Not sure how the OP's outfit relates to this.
So obviously if you can branch out and get your own work, all the better...

How they expect guys to be motivated and do quality work at those prices is beyond me.

    I sub contracted for Sky for 2 1/2 years 2003 - 2006. I covered laois, Offaly & N Tipperary....ON MY OWN :(

Monday - Wednesday I was in laois, Thursday - Saturday Offaly, every day in Tipperary. When I was offered the job, I thought it was great getting an average of 7 jobs a day when I was only getting about 8 a week from the company previous.

The problem with the job was no matter how early you started you would never get home at a reasonable hour. Every job you are given you have to get them completed in that day or they are carried forward.
Sky have so many rules, contact every customer in the morning, then sms text the job number and eta into hq. Then if you are running late ring the customer and tell them when to expect you. All this has to be done while you are busy driving and installing.

Christams 2003 was a joke. I was given 25 jobs a day to complete!! It cost me a fortune everyday ringing the customers in the morning, the ringing the rest of them in the evening to explain to them I couldnt come, and believe me most of them would keep you on the phone for 10 mins or more.

When my tax review was due and I went into the accountant, I couldnt believe that out of E70, 000 earned that year, only E15,000 was actual profit after I paid for everything.

Take my advise deaglan169, stay well clear of Sky direct. The job sounds good in theory, but when you are on the job a lot of thoughts are going through your mind. Sky pay peanuts and have never increased their subs pay since 2001 even though everything else has gone up.

I have never been happier since I left them. Working for them actually has put me off satellite work. I have gone down a different avenue now, although I do my own little bit of Sky work just to do something different from time to time. I am home now by 5 or 6 everyday and have Saturday off, something I never experienced before, and making more than they ever gave me.

Is it Finlays that offered you the job or Sierra, although I dont think Sierra cover that area.
