I'm not a big fan of these printers either. I've installed a few of them for friends and they've been nothing but hassle. You could try uninstall everything then get the latest drivers. Also if Dell gave you the really long 5m usb cable then get rid of this straight away and get a normal one, the longer ones are notoriously dodgey. Its crazy the amount of times I've had to tell people to do this and it fixed all their problems. Although by the sounds of it yours is a software problem

Go to the local library to do all your printing. Its far cheaper then buying one of those pieces of ****é every year. And then the price of ink ontop.

Many a time I have half-jokingly thought there must be a monopoly going on with all printer companies.

How much does the library cost ? Can one use a flash drive there ?

    Brother MFC-9420CN color multifunction

it may be expensive but its laser, doesnt cost a whole pile to run and way cheaper than horsing ink into printers. One of the best multifunction printers anyone could buy. they're worth the money in the long one.

If it ever breaks down, take out all the paper kick it and spray WD40 in it, it works for me now.....
